Locked my bike with a Krytponite D at the weekend (Krptolok). Stolen when I came back. Cable sliced through and lock had completely disappeared.

Registered with anit-theft programme but you have to return the lock. Anyone know what the position is here? I'm in the UK and just hadn't heard about the problems with Kryptonite locks until I was moaning elsewhere about the theft.

Am gutted. It was less than a month old and cost £650. Wasn't insured (stupid but screw up with home insurance).

If the cable was cut, it wasn't a problem with the lock, and I doubt Krypto would cover it anyway. That is a real bummer.

Sorry to hear the bike was stolen. BlazingPedals is quite correct: the problem with Kryptonite was with an easily pickable U-lock, not cable locks and not with cutting cables or steel. Without insurance, etc., it seems as if it would be a loss and unrecoverable. Report it to the police in any event. Who knows, maybe you'll get lucky and have it returned.

I would never use a cable lock unless it was accompanied with a U-Lock or chain. I'm still using the Bic Pen Kryptonite U-lock so you would think I'm looking for trouble!

Theft is the reason why I use my used scrached up Univega street bike so much. I feel terrible having used that bike more than my new ones but fear keeps the other babies inside. This summer, the other children will get the workout but I won't leave them outside for any length of time.

Sorry about your bike. Cable locks are okay for locking a front wheel, but they can be cut by a "prepared" crook in five seconds. If you live in a city, or on a college campus, you need a serious lock. Buy a "Gold" rated lock listed on the soldsecure website in the "leisure" products ratings...about ten or fifteen "Gold" rated locks are sold in the UK.
