Noob question number 3: hub thread diameters and TPIs...?

I really should have asked this question before trying to stick a Miche track cog setup on my cheap old fixie wheels. Now the Miche cog adapter is stuck on one side of the rear hub and I can't get it off.

Before I cock everything up again, are there differences between hub thread diameters, as well as threads per inch? I have a funny feeling I'm going to get a lecture about Italian and Japanese systems...

The only problems I have seen are with lock rings. The Japanese threading is pretty standard, but the European threading (Campy, Mavic) is definitely different for the lockrings. My cogs fit all of my wheels, but my lock rings are not interchangeable.
