Converting LX 8 speed Triple from bar ends to Brifters/Road Brakes-shifters
I have a 2000 Bianchi Axis. I originally set it up with 8 speed Deore LX trip front and LX 8 speed rear with Shimano Bar End Shifters. Finding that I did not like shifting my hands from breaks to shifters, I converted it to flat bars with Mt bile breaks and Tiagra shifters. Now I want to switch back to drops. Problem What model Shimano road brake-shifter units will work with an 8 speed set up and a triple top pull front derailleur. Thanks for the help!

Easiest to find (and cheapest) approach at this point might be Campagnolo Veloce 10 speed brifters.

Are you suggesting getting a bottom pull? If so, now we are talking routing problems. I'd like to avoid using a pulley to redirect.

That article seems to suggest that the veloce shifter will work with your current FD, but I've also heard people say that the newer Campy left shifters have fewer clicks and don't work as well with this as they used to. Haven't tried it yet myself, so I can't say for sure. Might be worth a try. You can usually get veloce shifters from the uk sites (like ribble) for less than $100 with cables included.

I think a number of people over in the classic and vintage forums have tried a shimergo setup, so if you ask for advice there with shimergo in the title you might get people with actual first person experience instead of my hypothetical what I've read theories.

I'm using the 10S Veloce shifters on an otherwise Shimano 8-speed bike right now and I love it. FWIW I'm using an old XT front derailer (bottom pull) shifting a 42/53 Biopace double! It works perfect. Only reason I'm using the XT is because that's what I had laying around.

If you use Shimano-compatible front brifter, then the cable pull ratio will be wrong for the front derailleur- MTB and road groups are incompatible in the front. But, you can use an 8 or 9 speed brifter in the rear while keeping the same derailleur- but if you use the 9-speed brifter on an 8-speed cassette, you'll need to do the "alternate cable routing" trick.
Top pull or bottom pull- the cable pull ratio is the same in the Shimano MTB groups.

There is an 8 speed brifter still shipped on the Lower tier road bikes, new.
Example: "Shimano 2300 STI, 8 speed," (as I cut and pasted from Trek site)
