I am new to bicycle mechanics but always dive in for the learning experience. This time, I was learned GOOD. My problem:

* just bought a new Masi Speciale CX Comp last week, it comes with a FSA Tempo, 50/34 crankset.
* I shopped forever, was eager to ride it and was too hasty installing older SPD 520 pedals
* I believe I've stripped the threads on the pedal end of the right crank arm.
* this sure has made me feel like a dumbass so I want to fix it myself and not call up the LBS who sold me the bike.

I've decided to replace it rather than fix this inexpensive crank, but they're hard to find. If it's a 50/34 crank (9spd) and I'm not able to find the FSA Tempo used or new, what specifications are important to find in the replacement crank? I've found FSA Vero 50/34 road cranksets ( part 330-6520 ), would that suffice?

I'd suggest you fix it. You should be able to have the threads repaired with a Helicoil insert for about $20 and the repaired threads will be stronger than the originals. Any competent machine shop should be able to do the job easily and quickly.

Then grease the pedal threads and torque them adequately; inadequate torque is a frequent cause of stripped crankarm threads.

Thanks dsbrantjr, I'm pretty handy with those sorts of things, so I may just try helicoil.

In case I do just go with a replacement crankset, anything that fits my BB and which is the same crank-length and compact ratio ( 34/50 ), for a 9 speed should work right? Whether it be Shimano, FSA or whatever. Is that assumption correct?

The Helicoil kit, which consists of a drill, special tap and insertion tool as well as inserts, may not be cost-effective for a single repair. Of course if you plan to keep on stripping crankarms....

Suck it up, go to your LBS, and ask them to heliocoil it.
