After a lot of suggestions on this forum, I ended up buying a Tern Uno. Thor gave me a great deal on a display bike, and my wife was awesome enough to get me a rack, pannier, and tail light for x-mass!

I changed out a few things: the saddle for a leather brooks that I had on another bike, the pedals for metal ones, and the weaker tern magnet for a dahon magnet. I also added an alloy Crane bell, spoke lights, and a NiteRider headlight with a custom switch (I post about that here). So here's how she looks:

I saw that Big Red Switch on the bars and thought 'Dang! That's a piece of Suzuki.' And so it is. Cool mod, I think.

what I mean was the brick and mortar store front of thorusa. Sounds like you order it online.

I always want to visit the physical location of thorusa but it's too far away from Chicago to Southern Illinois.

Congrats on the new Tern! I think you'll find that riding such a simple bike without handbrakes or shifters will be a lot of fun! It'll allow you to rediscover the pleasure of the ride once again.

I had been lusting after a similar bike in the past few weeks...the Dahon MU Uno when I watched a video made by Nycewheels on YouTube, but the near $700 price tag is a no go for me, and the cheaper Speed Uno is not as interesting. Hopefully, Thor did make you a great deal on the Tern.

P.S. How does the peddling effort feel like to you? Does the drive-train feel free, and efficient?

Where I'm riding is all flat, and it takes no effort at all to pedal. Accelerates fast, as far as I can tell it's the perfect gear for this. It struggles climbing hills, I wouldn't want to hit many, but it does makes it up. For me the trade-off is worth it for the simplicity and lack of cables, but your mileage may very.

I live in a flat area too (Orlando, FL), and I do ride a single speed folder. Well it was a multi speed before but it was converted over two years ago to the current drivetrain. It pedals relatively easy but I'm very certain your bike, as well as the single speed Dahons I mentioned will feel much more efficient, lighter, and faster for the same effort.

Er, yes. Didn't notice until after I had taken the pics. I had to take off one grip because I put a front brake on it, then I realized the front brake made it much more difficult to fold and I took it off. Guess I didn't get the grips perfect afterwards.

I thought it was related to the switch somehow. Better access, etc.
