The weather's been holding up nicely for the past week or so with temps in the low to mid twenties (Celsius), but I haven't been able to enjoy it because of feeling drained of energy. Don't feel sick and have been eating (relatively) nutritious meals but every ride feels a like hill climb.

Steady at 30mph is one thing. It was the 44mph gusts that are quite another.

The early season heat wave continues. Got a later start and was caught in just about every stoplight.

Cold, -7C with a -13C windchill but the worst part of it was that it seemed that no matter what direction I was facing on my somewhat circular route, I was going into a headwind, it got rather nipple-y on the ride. My toes got really cold although it wasn't cold enough to think that frostbite was in the realm of possibility. I wore summer-weight full-fingered gloves, not realizing how cold it was and within a couple of kms, my fingers were really cold. However, I knew I had to tough it out and continue and strangely, they began to feel better and by the end of the ride, they were really red (I only knew this when I took off my gloves) and hot on my cold face so perhaps my blood flow adapts: I remember learning in grade school that the hands of an Inuit (Eskimo) are much tolerant of cold than southern folk and can have their hands wet from fishing, etc., in the winter and be perfectly fine. I also recently read in Cycling home from Siberia that Rob Lilwall, while riding across Tibet in -20C (-4F) weather, was passed by a Tibetan on a motorcycle who wasn't wearing gloves.

First ride this week despite the warmest weather we've had since last October. I came down with some sort of stomach bug on Monday and missed 1.5 days of work and 3 days of riding. I kind of needed a break anyway since I rode 240 miles last week, and the timing was good because the pollen levels have been extremely high all week. My ride this morning was very slow, even with three days rest, because I had a stiff headwind all the way to work and I'm still recovering from being sick. Felt good to be riding again tho, but I might regret it if the pollen sets off my allergies. We usually have one week every year, usually in early April, when the pollen goes crazy around here and this week is it. I suffer through it, but got really sick from it one year when I put in a whole bunch of miles during the peak pollen period.

Rain and wet but who cares, is was 59F?! Ride home yesterday was interesting - some areas were getting golf ball sized hail. Somehow I managed to avoid it. Between racing thunderstorms and a wicked tailwind I might have broken my ride-home record!

Spring has been late in arriving around here, and I've been using that excuse to feed my inertia. Finally broke out of it today and rode to work (only the third time this year). Trails are mostly clear, but still some ice and snow in spots, and the unpaved trails are in pretty bad shape. Of course, I'm in pretty bad shape too...had to gear down a couple notches up the hills (compared to what I was using last fall).

Forecast is calling for another 4-6" of snow this weekend. Blech.

Was nearly left-crossed on the way home yesterday. I hockey-stopped and yelled a bad word at the driver. Otherwise, an uneventful ride home.

Glorious ride home, mid-70's just after a light rain cleared the air of pollen, it felt like I was gliding on air.

My chain came off the big ring onto the crank arm about 1/2 mile from work. When I continued pedaling (this has worked before) to recover the chain it caught somehow in the rear derailleur and destroyed it. I was not able to re-route the cable and paddled my bike like a skateboard back to work. A coworker gave me a lift home.

Besides that the weather was warm, not hot, and would have been great for the ride home.

The ride in was warmer and sunnier than expected, with just a pleasantly challenging headwind. Didn't get enough sleep last night, so only 17.7mph avg speed going in today. I remembered to wear merino wool base-layer which kept me nice and warm riding in.

I stayed late at work, so traffic was heavier than usual, and I took the longer, calmer way home. I had a nice tailwind almost the whole way and I smashed the 15.8 mi with an avg of 21mph, 45min. Same time as if I had taken the shorter, usual way. A route change can do the legs good.

Super nice 50F on the way home, had to take the arm warmers off 4 miles from work. Only partly cloudy, and the birds are out singing again!

Yelled at a salmon today. Geez, just because it's a bike lane doesn't mean you still don't have to ride with traffic.

Cool -4C with a windchill of -12C but the worst part were the gusts of winds up to 60kmh (40mph): it took me an hour to ride in this morning because 1/2 the ride was into the wind.

Yesterday on the ride home, my tail light housing fell apart: I heard the plastic fall onto the road after going over a pothole. I was able to retrieve it and last night, hot glued it but this morning's winds blowing tin cans and plastic bottles around the street (for most of residential areas on my ride, today is garbage/blue box pickup day), I kept thinking that my light fell apart again or something else fell off the bike.

We're being hit by that storm that went through north-central US but so far, it is just high winds and some drifting snow, no significant snowfall yet.

Spring has left the building, 37F (that's down 22 degrees from yesterday morning!) and raining. That makes three days in a row riding in the rain. When temps are in the 50's rain is no big deal but this morning it was pretty yucky. Worse was the steady 13mph cross/headwind. I'll take rain over wind any day, but rather not have both. If I'm lucky I'll have a tailwind on the way home. Good weekend everyone!

Didn't look like it was raining too hard. Maybe I need glasses! 40F and pouring, steady 10-15mph wind out of the east.

Rode through a downpour the entire way to work (7 miles) and got soaked. Shoes stayed relatively dry thanks to the plastic bags over my feet, but everything else is just dripping wet. My hands were so cold that it was difficult to use the thumb shifters.

It's supposed to clear up by this afternoon, so the ride home should be very nice. It's my first 5-day commuting week since last Fall.

Wet. They've been predicting a storm for days. But I caught a break in the rain, and took it, and arrived just a bit damp. I've learned to watch weather radar like a hawk on a day like today. All the sensible people took the train, so the only bikes I saw out were the delivery guys. They may be annoying salmoners, but you gotta give them props for tenacity. A guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do to make a living.
