Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

shshh. use whatever you need. I had to replace the fork on my GTB and went with 1" threadless as well. I also like being able to swap bars easily.

Clean build. Slam the stem if it doesn't affect your fit.

Fat front fixie. I just built it up with whatever parts I had laying around it uses a Velosolo 16t on the disc brake. If I can get a real good deal on a brake I will add one up front.

I finally got out for a nice long ride last weekend, and started shaking the bugs out of the new build. I snapped this pic at an old school where I stopped to make some adjustments.

nearly finished on both 90's bikes for the #RaleighBikesArtShow as part of the 2014 Oaks and Spokes bike festival. Dura Ace vs. Record, GT vs. Cannondale.

Pista Concept Street Version

So I got the Super Pista fork with the brake hole today and mounted it with an Easton EC90 TKO carbon road drop bar, Deda Zero stem and Cane Creek hooded levers. Also, I replaced the Tioga Spyder torture saddle with a WTB Valcon takeoff from my Salsa Colossal. I'm still waiting for a Tektro R530 front brake caliper to arrive, so that I can complete the setup and cut off the excess steerer tube. I was able to use the fork crown race from a new Cane Creek S3 headset and had an extra star nut, so when it's time to head out to the track, I'll just switch back to my old fork, bar and stem.

Ten years obsessing, searching, and some unwise financial moves finally got me these two bikes in my size. I got the GT on a lark for a good price when I started working at a shop 9 years ago and finally "restored" it having assembled a nice drivetrain. The Cannondale was a long, painful search. I missed the mark by a year or two before prices went insane ~2009, then it was impossible to find a 66 at any cost. Almost ordered a Colossi or Pelizzoli but this was a purely emotional decision. I wanted the Cannondale.

Here they are built, waiting for bartape and plugs. Bad cellphone pics, I know. The GT is going into a local bike art show so I should have some great photos to share once I hook up with the curator/photographer.
