I bought a new hybrid bike yesterday, a Giant Escape 2. I LOVE IT! Man this bike is fast. Normally I fit a large but I tried both the large and extra large and the extra large just seemed to fit me better. I’m not exactly sure the max weight it can hold but I’m 230 and I lug around the Kryptonite lock plus the big water bottle. I hope that helps. The bike is nice.

Although this bike is fast, I wonder if I can put a 34/50 crankset on it? Anyone know?

Enjoy your new ride. My wife & I just picked up a couple of Escape RX0. Giant does make a great bike.... but your right about the saddle. We ride every day and have since moving to FL 3 years ago. However, after a few days on the new giant saddle I feel like a newbie again. I don't think it's going to improve as both our butts are used to being in bike seat. So I just we are in the market for replacement saddles as well.

Yes, you'll need a new bottom bracket and possibly a new front derailleur. I would keep the stock triple crank though. The 38T middle ring on the stock triple crank is much more versatile than the 34T on the compact double crank. I use a 50/34 on my road bike and my experience is that a compact double crank requires a more front shifting than a triple. Switching to a double won't make you any faster either. Riding more/harder is what makes you faster.

does this bike have a 10 speed rear cassette and shifting system? if not, it will be difficult to put a 50-34 road compact double on it, as they are setup for 10 speed chains and shifters, and have narrower spacing between the chain rings.

ah, if you're a clyde... make sure the bottom end of the seat post is well below where the top tube meets the seat tube.... see another thread on here about a trek that broke. in fact, if you see that mark on the seat post thats the 'minimum insertion mark', I'd suggest putting the post so thats no higher than the top of that top tube joint, rather than up to the seat post clamp.

now, in your pics, you show the seat pretty low, but unless you're particularlly short legged, you'll probably discover you want it higher as you get more comfortable riding this bike.

I’m glad you mentioned the seat height position as I was just going to ask that question. I see a lot of bikes on here that have the seat post high, I would like to go higher but as I’m sitting on the bike and stopped I’m already on my tippy toes. Is this normal?

This is the highest I can go that I’m on my tippy toes sitting on the bike at a stop and still have a little bend in my legs at the 6 o’clock position.

I looked at the owners manual and it said the Giant bike used for strictly road riding can take 275 pounds plus 10 pounds of luggage for a total of 285 pounds. If you get a cycle-cross bike it says it will handle a 300 pound rider plus 30 pounds of luggage for a total of 330 pounds. but more expensive and it has drop bars although I’m sure you can get a straight bar put in. Hope this helps.

If you mean touching your toes on the ground while stopped that's not the proper way to set saddle height. Watch this video for the easiest way to set your saddle height. Fast forward to 1:45 if you want to skip the intro.

No, what I meant was when I'm at a stoplight sitting on my seat I'm on my tippy toes. But yes, I did it just like in the video with my heel on the peddle going for a full extension so now when I ride on the balls on my feet my legs are slightly bent.

Ya, most people are going to do that if their seat is set at the right height. Although it tells you nothing specifically about whether your saddle is at the right height. I have to get off the seat and put one foot down when I'm at a stoplight.

With my typical seat height, I can generally put one foot down on the ball of the foot with the bike leaned just a bit over. thats all it takes to balance.

I think if I go any higher I'll lose the bend in my legs.
