C&V bike Jewelry....aka gotta love the wife.

So my wife works as a self employed jeweler (and I am her lowly assistant at times) and she is currently taking part of a Flickr challenge to make a brooch a day everyday for a year (She did a similiar challenge a couple years ago with rings). Yesterday she came up from her studio and handed me this. Thought you all might like it.

Best part was she asked me for more ideas on chain wheels. So I'm guessing I'll get a Raleigh Huron, Schwinn Sweetheart, and Puegot Lion in the near future. And we're tossing around the idea of making them available for purchase in the near future as well. All of it was hand cut btw....

That is nice. Brass? Also, tough to get scale. What size is it?

Wonderful, I can see that idea being very popular if it was made available.

The piece is roughly 2" in diameter. Made of 20 guage brass (if we decide to make them they'd likely be offered in sterling silver copper and brass). The center crank hole was omited because originally that is where the pin was going to go, but since the piece was larger she decided to add two pins on the outer circle of the chain wheel. That way it wouldn't spin.

She cut it with a jewelers saw. For each negitive space area a hole was drilled and the blade threaded through the hole to cut it. The pinbacks were sautered on.

She also made this one for me a little while back, though not really C&V it's still bike related since is a pinback with reflective tape.

Well, she did it again but this time for our 15th Anniversary.

Again it's cut in 20 guage brass.

That's great! A very nice design. The brooch a day challenge sounds fun.

Conrad, you are a lucky man. Most of our wives, GFs or SOs don't get what we do, let alone support it in such a lovely way.

Chapeau!
