The A-10 is butt ugly. Especially if you're in a tank looking up.

I met a gal who flew A10's in the first Iraq war, in fact she had been interviewed in the media. Her call sign was "Killer Chick". She what can happen when we get PMS?

Haha. I live near what used to be one of the largest A-10 bases on the east coast. Now it houses F-15E's as the Northeast first response force.

Absolutely. The A-10 is a tweeter, the F-15 is a subwoofer.

@shovelhd, interesting, I'd have thought the opposite though I haven't heard either in-person. I've heard a number of F-18s and F/A-18s and I assumed F-15s sounded similar.

@sarals, since you probably have Masters National Road Championships in your future and since USA Cycling randomly enforces and doesn't enforce UCI equipment rules for the ITT, you might check to see if the Guru and Quintana Roo frames are UCI legal. I know that some Quintana Roo frames are not. Not sure how you'd make a determination on the Hongfu. The Ridley frames should be good.

Fan of the Dean (had one before the Kestrel). The Dean RS is a great value. I'm not sure the Guru and the Chrono are UCI compliant, some of the parts look past 3:1. Might come into play down the road for Nats. Other than that I don't know much about the latter two.

I haven't been able to determine that ANY of the Chinese frames are UCI compliant. There is discussion of that on Slow Twitch, Velobuild, and other sites. I know the Quintana Roo isn't, it was designed for USAT (shame that, because it seems a great value). I am surprised the Guru isn't. I know Felts are, and Shivs are. I too like the Dean RS!

Cleave, you really think I have a Masters National Road Championship in my future (reading that caused my eyes to get REALLY big!)?

If anyone wants to read through it, here is the link to the UCI "legal bikes" list.

The A-10 engines, P&W I believe, have a high pitched squeal along with a grinding sound. They have always sounded to me like they were going to explode. The F-15 has a much lower pitch. When they hit the afterburners the ground shakes.

The fastest tri-guy I know rides a QR. He has it dialed in to the same extent Ex has his Shiv dialed in, and it is really slick. Custom cover for the crankset, prototype saddle, etc. He is a pretty tall guy, but really fast and slippery. He averaged over 25mph for the Arizona Ironman (115 miles?), finishing top 5 in I think the 25-30 age group. Pretty sure he was fastest on the bike in his category. Riding his wheel, as he cranks it up to 40mph on the QR, is truly painful. He dropped my butt. I think 2 teammates (cat 1/2 guys), stayed with him after he asked "mind if I pick up the pace", but they certainly never pulled.

From what I've read that QR is slippery! I wish it was UCI legal. Even QR says on their website that it isn't. I remember you mentioning that fella in an earlier post, AzT. Wow.

Shovel, the A10 has GE TF34 engines. They're a relatively "small" engine with a big fan on the front (it sounds like a buzz saw). The Bombardier C-RJ series airliner uses derivatives of those engines. They're a good motor, let me tell you!

Buzz saw. That's it.

Some of the C-5 Galaxy's nearby have a similar sound.

@shovelhd, you should stop by Stewart Air National Guard Base in NY to see some C-17s.
@sarals, there are some C-17s at Travis AFB.

Now back to your regularly scheduled TT bike program.

With all four turning they do. Cage one and it's a different story!

Back to the TT program (Cleave, I want YOU to show me a C17)...

My old neighbor across the street was a C-5 navigator. He took me inside one. It's just amazing how much crap they can carry. Three tractor-trailers end to end. His son is now a para rescue jumper for the Coast Guard.
