I still support the way it was for me when I was younger. Difficult to get as your points came against racing with other 1s of which there weren't very many (think of guys like Brian Walton, Eric Wohlberg, Michael Barry, Gord Fraser). Once you got there you had to continue to produce results or you would get downgraded to a 2 and could never be downgraded past a 2.
I feel that as it is an Elite license it should be kept there to a select group,

Just wondering why you are asking the question? I believe I know why and can only recommend to be patient, continue to learn, grow, progress, etc and the time will come. As someone else mentioned there really aren't any huge advantages unless you want to focus on NRC/NCC level races and to be honest that is going to be dominated by pros or those on elite teams.
Don't put too much pressure on yourself to try and force something, that's when bad things happen.

Those who fly through the cats are usually destined to do so and often comes from momentum. I broke my ankle riding motocross at 17 (late April i think), the only thing I could do was ride a bicycle for a summer (I ended up being laid up for 12 weeks). When I finally had my cast taken off I decided I wanted to go fast so my parents got me a road bike. Shortly thereafter I jumped into my first race and got my ass handed to me. Based on my personality that was never going to feel like that again.
The following year was my first year of racing and was a Cat 1 by the end of it.
What is important to understand is that I started as a competitive hockey player around 5 and was on the ice 5-6 days a week. I was also a competitive alpine skiier and when not at the rink I was on the slopes. Combine those two and I had developed great leg power and aerobic/anaerobic abilities. I also had some good genetics to go along with it (I had a V02 Max in excess of 70 by 17 as I was tested in high school). Throw in there some exceptional coaching and amazing teammates and things progress quickly.

all of the upgrade points came in the last six months of that two year period.
looking forward to doing san dimas p/1, and some of the ncc races down south! maybe eventually cascade p/1 but that's a bit climby.. and nationals of course.. will be fun just to say I was there.
