In a recent Bicycle Retailer article, Steven Hansen writes that the FTC (no doubt at great expense to tax payers) has revised its rules for online advertising making them much similar to other current advertising laws. Here they are (these are real laws).

Advertising must be truthful and not misleading.
Advertisers must have evidence to back up their claims (“substantiation”), and
Advertisement cannot be unfair (Unfair means is likely to cause substantial consumer injury that consumers could not reasonably avoid and that is not outweighed by the benefit to consumers or competition.)

Repeat, this is not a joke. Or maybe it is.
