I ride a Merlin Extralight which I had built almost 20 years ago. It weighs 15.8 pounds, is in exceptional condition, and has 130mm rear spacing and friction shifting. The wheels on it are Spinergy Rev-X tubulars which I love, but need to be replaced because they are 18 years old and have developed 2 miniscule cracks, which make me concerned for safety. Spinergy has a trade-in program with a deep discount on their current wheels, but they don't seem to be popular. Their Stealth FCT model weighs 1390 grams, and I can get them for $1,100 shipped.

Does anyone use the Stealth FCT or FCC wheel? Any recommendations on other wheels? I want light, aero, and around $1,500 cost (give or take).

If you want new wheels for 1500, it's going to have to be generic tubies like Boyds or Williams, etc. don't forget to factor in the cost of tires, cassette (if you want to have multiple wheelsets ready to roll), etc. that stuff adds up too.

I wouldn't really classify our line as generic seeing as how we have all proprietary rims and hub on all our builds now. We spent a lot of time developing both and you won't see them on any line except our own.

Reynolds Assault, Attack or Strike can be had for that price in clincher or tubular.

If you look hard enough, you could probably find the even better DV46s in tubular for that price.

Suggest you you consider November Rail 52 carbon clinchers: 52mm deep, 23mm wide, 1505 gm, $1285.

Didnt mean to misinform or offend. If I were I the OPs shoes, I'd opt for your 45mm tubies.

1500$ is the perfect amount for an awesome aero wheelset. Try looking at fast forward, F2R, F4R and F6R. A lot of people around me are very satisfied with them. They're comparable to zipps but online you can get with them dt240 hubs which are better than zipps.

If you want some nice wheels that are not carbon I'd suggest looking at the American Classic wheels. I have them on my road bike and think very highly of them. I think a new set runs about $800-900 give or take..
