Wise guys. Here's proof that I just didn't run with it the whole time.

Plus a bonus picture of Lucas and his race face.

*sigh*

Good times, great photos, so envious of your self-discipline and accomplishments.

Maybe they have bentocross races I could look into.

A buddy posted this from a race a couple months ago. Making a very hard effort into the wind and dropping the guy we needed out. The effort blew me up on the next hill but our guy in the middle/back who is deep in the drops won the age group. Looks like more than just me had a suffer face on.

Great shot! Black and white seems a proper mood for that kind of racing.

Looks like you are kicking arse! What is the size and banking of your track?

Packer Parker velodrome is one of seven velodromes in Melbourne - two of which are 250m indoor tracks . This track is one of the longer and flatter tracks around town at 360m long and 12% banking the whole way which I quickly discovered didn't offer any benefit! Given we have so many tracks, even though it is only 8km from home, I'd never ridden it before last weekend!

It was rather exposed to the surprisingly blustery South Easterly wind which made the back 'straight' a slog but offered a super fast wind assisted finish.

A grade comprised of riders I'd not competed against before so I really wasn't sure who to watch. First race was a straight scratch, the rider on my wheel in the photos showed his hand early and attacked hard. I covered the move quickly but didn't want to keep it going as it was too early and wanted to see how strong the other riders were. About 5 laps to go he went again but as I was already shadowing him I covered it quickly with one other rider coming across. Unfortunately we weren't working well and were were about to get caught at the bell. I was on the front so upped the pace into the wind getting out of the saddle and going 200 metres to go. With the tail wind, being in front it was the place to be. I didn't look back till over the line and ended crossing first with a good gap.

Second race was a 2 lap sprint. Due to the number of riders we ended rolling off the fence rather than be held and cruised an extra lap for a rolling start. I shadowed the same rider as he once again upped the pace sitting nicely on the outside so we wouldn't get boxed in. Final lap - back straight I pushed hard as he dropped into the sprinters lane and was able to power past him and dropped into the sprinters lane myself at around 150m to go and once again crossed first a few lengths clear.

Final race was an Elimination with one rider being called out each lap after the first neutral lap. First couple of sprints I was cruising mid bunch and not happy being there as it would be too easy to be boxed in. So after the next sprint I kept the pressure on over the line and dropped into the front position. Once again with the wind it was the place to be for the sprints and a great position to dictate the pace as no one was keen to drive around me along the back into the wind. From the front I was able to check over my shoulder as the others fought it out to avoid being eliminated. A little confusion on the bell as there were still three riders behind me; found afterwards one rider didn't hear his number get called out. Again I kept the pace steady and attacked hard around 200m to go and came across first again.

Not the strongest fields in the end, but I am really happy with how smart I was reading the conditions and opposition. A great afternoons racing!

Then I raced my regular Tuesday night at DISC (one of the indoor tracks) which has racing Tuesday and Thursday nights year round. My ego was quickly put back in check with some tough racing. My best result was a fourth in the 50 lap motorpace...

Nice looking track and great results Dalai at both tracks. We cannot control who shows up and must take our competition as we find it.

There was a woman from Australia that was on my racing club's elite 1/2 team a couple of years ago and stayed here for a season with my former coach. He and his wife recruited riders for the team and ran it. She grew up in Melbourne a couple of miles from an indoor track and trained and raced on it starting as a kid. She was totally amazing on the track. One could see by her actions, she was completely at home on the velodrome and it carried over to her road racing where she had several wins in NorCal in very tough P/1/2 fields. She is back in Australia.

The countries that dominate track are UK, Austrilia, New Zealand and the USA.
