92 Cannondale R600 or 2012 Scott s40 for my first road bike
Thinking about buying this bike to get into road cycling
https://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/bik/3863809258.html
Wondering if a 56cm would be a little big for me. I'm 5'10". I wear 30" inseam pants.
Is this a quality bike, good for getting into cycling? I've read that these are a bit stiff.
Or should I spend a little more on this Scott s40 that is only a year old?

Thanks!

Test ride both and see what's better. I think I would go with the specialized based on pictures, but it may not be that nice in person.

I'd love to buy that Cannondale... I want a Cannondale with downtube shifters and that paint scheme is pretty sweet.
As stated, I'd test ride both. I'm 5'9" with an inseam of 32" (I believe) and I ride a size 54. I could ride a 56, but it just felt a tad big under me. I would've had to shorten the stem, and I didn't want to do that.

56 is probably about right... the Cannondale is overpriced, IMO. Scott seems kind of high for a Sora bike, but it's 20 years newer -- think about that.

I vote the Scott, as long as it fits okay. If it's too big then skip it. Nothing's worse than a bike that's the wrong size.

The CDales clean, but IMO just too much money for that particular bike.
If the Scott is really Ultregra everything cept the shifters, it's probably close to the right price but seems a little high to me.

Thanks for the replies. I took a couple of bikes out for test rides at shops in Tampa yesterday. A 52cm Trek, felt too small. Then a 54cm Giant which felt perfect. So I think 56cm might be a little big.
What do you guys think of this 1989 Raleigh?
