Per USAC: "(f) Training Race Series Permit –A training race series is a sequence of race meets of the same kind conducted on a regular basis at the same location, time, and day of the week. State Championship series are NOT eligible! A prize list of less than $499 per day may be offered. The fee for 1-3 days is $50.00. The fee for 4-30 days is $100. All riders must be licensed and sign waivers. Organizers pay $3.00 per rider per day for insurance coverage."
Also, around here, training crits generally mean lapped riders aren't pulled. They are noted by the race official and are allowed to slide back into the field to continue racing, assuming everyone is riding safely.

I don't know what 'this is BF' means outside of you trying to get some bearing on the fact that you're in your browser on a forum and not facebook or your email client. Still I genuinely don't know what a training crit is. This is a weekday race he's going to. Guys are pinning on numbers to win. Same as races every other day of the week.
It is a weekday crit on a less technical course with the option to jump back in where you are not pulled. It is also significantly cheaper and equally as competitive. Happy?

Windy! it gets really windy out there and yeah the roads are pretty bad, there are usually a bunch of people flatting out. The tuesday nights are usually the bigger course and thursdays use the smaller one. Usually the youre riding into the wind on the back side of the course and riding with it when you come down the start finish straight so it makes for some fast sprints. Idk what cat youre in but the 5s generally do 5 laps out there on tuesdays. Personally I think its a pretty fun race, if you work a 9-5 its almost like two races if you count trying to get down there in time to race.
and I'll be definitely busting my butt trying to get to the meetup from midtown.

The only training crit around here I can think of is Orr Rd. It's weekly, free, P/1/2/3/4/5/6/W and probably illegal.

I'll keep an eye out for you next week (if you're going); I'll probably be wearing bright green jersey, neon helmet and glasses, or a blue castelli jersey with black shorts on a Black/Red (fast!) Trek.

Tonight's training race is like that except add on a few primes. There is an official recording but no results are sent to USAC.

Oh, they are races. And some people/teams take them very seriously.
But for newer racers who are struggling in cat 5 races, the "training" races around here are great because if they fall off, they can recover and jump back in, trying to stay in the field a little longer each week without having to worried about being pulled.
Also, I posted the USAC comment because USAC classifies training race series differently, resulting in lower payouts and costs to promoters. That's the biggest distinction.

I raced a different training crit last night. SM4,SM5,SW4,and SW3 in my race. Towards the end the peleton was about a third the size with everyone else scattered throughout the course. It was good pack training in a wide open course. Some folks take it very serious. Some don't. BFD

this is true for the tuesday race, the thursday series is considered a crit (if you care which one youre getting yourself into)
sigh... so typical recently, and when its sunny are the days I have a hard time making it there from work. cant win.

So...it rained again yesterday.
At 11:30pm (meaning that I should have chanced it instead of assuming it would be rained out again). I think I'm just gonna try to do a Saturday morning race instead of the Tuesday evening one.
