First commute
I did it
OMG what a way to start the day. Was sunny and 60, not much wind, streets were kind and virtually empty. Took me about an hour for 11.99 miles. Slower than my roadie for sure, but respectable for my first day.
So far just one minor issue ... FORGOT MY WATER BOTTLE! LOL
Had to stop at a gas station for a squeeze bottle of water

That's great!
There's something about commuting that's special, maybe it's using a bike for utility rather than recreation. Not sure what it is but it sure feels good.

I feel fantastic ... the way I used to feel when I'd workout in the mornings before the rest of the day.
And it was kind of cool getting a "surprised" good morning from the receptionist who asked me about my ride, how far, etc.

Great job. If oh preload and post load on water during the week you won't need to drink on the commute. I do still take a fll bottle with me but rarely use it on the commute.

For whatever reason I'm a heavy water drinker when on the bike ... not sure if I do it to hydrate or to alter my hand position or what. I do tend to sweat a lot too, so I'll definitely always have water with me

Congratulations!
Bicycle commuting is rewarding, and if you find it works for you, you will miss it whenever you don't ride in to work. Last year when I started, I knew almost immediately that I would be ditching the car and going 100% bicycle commuting. It took a while to build the confidence to let go of the car and do it, but I did it.
You can open up virtually the whole calendar to bicycle commuting, regardless of weather, with a small assortment of outdoor athletic gear, some waterproof panniers, and a little determination. Good luck, I hope you like it and do more. Definitely check out the Commuting sub-forum for lots of helpful tips and advice.

just pedal
I'm the same... just doing light work in my garage I will pour sweat so when I ride I tend to drink a lot even if I've been drinking ample water throughout the day... granted I'm in a fairly humid area so that doesn't help.
