Classes of Clyde's
I hear about Clyde's, super Clyde's, über Clyde's..etc. what are the different "classes" and what weight ranges do they fall in?

One big difference is do you need to lose weight or not. I'm 195 and 5'7", plenty of fat yet to lose. Many of the folks here are over 200 but are just big, tall, fit folks.

Yeah, I think of several classes. First you have the big, muscled folks who will likely always be Clydes or Athenas. And there are those who are overweight or obese and when they lose weight may or may not fall out of the Clyde/Athena weight class. Then you have those who fall within the morbidly obese category, usually defined as those with a BMI over 39. You also have folks that are so heavy that there are concerns about getting a bike that will handle their weight. I see guys refer to themselves in this category as "Uber" or "Super" Clydes.

I'm 6'4" and currently hovering around 300. I don't think that I will ever be sub 200 again seeing how the last time I was close was ~215 and <8% body fat almost 25 years ago.... If I get down to 240 I'll be happy... 230 or less and I might just do the "pee dance" (those of you with kids know what I mean there)! Much below 230 and I start looking TOO SKINNY...
Super Clyde... Uber Clyde.... Pachyderm.... Fat Ass... they all fit and there's more than enough room for all of the stickers!

I guess I'm a sorta the fast weenie clyde. @ 201# from 218# earlier this summer & standing almost 6'2 I'll forever be a clyde. Well til I shrink from ligament decay from running and riding too much

Hmmm, an uber clyde is 300+ from what I gather so I guess I'm a Super Clyde at 270.

Before we get caught up with the weight classes of clydedom, first we have to distinguish between: "Clydes by Act of God" and "Clyde by Choice".

With regard to weight, it seems the current sort of unofficially recognized categories go something like:
Mini-clyde = 200 to 220 or 230 lbs.
Clyde=200 to somewhere around 260 to 280 lbs.
Superclyde= sort of 270'ish to around the 300+ mark
Uberclyde = 300+
When you think about clydedom, the weight range represented equals the total weight of a comptitive pro cyclist. Decent food for thought when we start talking about the suitability of various lightweight racing components.

lol... well i'm still in UBER territory... but was a clyde most if not all of HS... just at the edge but all the same when about 15% body fat... I don't think i'll ever see non clyde again outside of having a serious amputation lol

I'm 6'7" and 271lbs (just weighed myself this morning)
In addition to problems with getting bike parts that are robust enough for my weight, there's also the issues with finding bikes that are big enough for me. There's very few factory stock bikes that will fit. I did have a 66cm Cannondale once and that was a good one. The new KHS 747 is interesting, I'd like to test drive one. But my main bikes now are customs I bought used from other tall guys.
