Looking for Panniers Ideas
I have been looking for panniers for my bike all last night and haven't found anything I liked. This morning I was finishing a project for a buddy which gave me the idea of making my own panniers out of fiberglass. This brings me to my problem is what should I take into consideration when I am making a pannier for the rear of my bike. I am having trouble with ideas on how to have a lid for it and how much and where clearance. Overall my plan is just to get one big pocket and if I need more room I will make a sock for it with extra pockets. Once I get one perfect I'll make it out of carbon fiber if I find the need for more strength. Is there anything else I am missing to think of, I am open to any ideas.

Try prototyping the shape and size using correx, you can pick up For Sale signs for free and join the sections by zip ties. This will give you the heel clearance and profile that you need.
For mounting, I suggest rivetting on a section of aluminium extrusion and sliding on some R&K hooks.
Fibreglass is very heavy. You may find that Correx is plenty strong enough on its own and you can make tidy joins with fibreglass tape and epoxy.

never thought of fiberglass as being heavy but maybe it is in the bike world lol I do have mail bins sitting around that I can use and just paint sigh*

I have a set and they work good and keep your things dry to boot! You can easily make this yourself.

I have been using army issued bags which mount right on my rack and fit my clothing and everything just haven't tested it in the rain yet
