I am looking for a cheaper pair of waterproof pannier bags for my rear rack than what the LBS's in my home of NYC sell. Good, waterproof sets here seem to run ~$160 or above, more than I'd like to spend. Any recommendations for cheaper options online/at a local store? Although I want something cheaper, I don't want something with low build quality that will fall apart.

Also, can anyone help ID these panniers?

The vendor on Ebay has a very high rating and thousands of reviews, which is reassuring, but there's no brand name or other identifying information on the bag for me to evaluate them. I'm looking for a deal, but am wary of the price.

I've found that panniers are a very personal thing and that shopping for them is no fun at all! You can't really get waterproof panniers cheap. In fact, I think the only ones that are close to waterPROOF are the Ortliebs. Others are water RESISTANT, but barely, from what I've experienced. If you're looking for "cheap," consider a water resistant set and pack all the contents in plastic bags.

wald baskets and a set of actual dry bags will give you cheap waterproof panniers

Built mine out of plastic waste baskets, plumbers tape, long springs, window sash grabbers, modified snap hooks. Made elastic tops out of pack cloth. Still have them 37 years later. You could go to Goodwill and buy most of the above (or something that would work) for less than $10.

YES 10 WHEELS!! Mine are more modest (1/2 the size). Going to make another set to show how inexpensive they are! My 13 AAA feet required back setting slightly. I wrecked with them on 3 times...never broke...

Seattle sports titan bag, can sometimes be found on REI closeout at 80 bucks for both. Had mine a year used mostly for commuting and long day trips, no worries.

FYI.
For $25 I got a dry bag from Amazon that just fit inside my existing non waterproof pannier.
It works fine for me, keeping my 15 year old panniers on the job.

Banjo Brothers waterproof panniers are $50 each. They're roll top, so you can fit a TON of stuff when you don't close the top. I really like them.

I purchased the axiom randonnee aero 40's from ae bike at $127. I think I got free shipping as well, but don't quote me on it.https://www.aebike.com/Axiom-Randonee...k_p_59244.html they are not waterproof in the way ortliebs are. In other words you can't submerge them. However all the seems are ultra sonically welded and the external pocket has a waterproof zipper. The quality feels good. I spent a long time researching bags and was desperate for a bag to commute with when I got these last May. I have been happy with my purchase. I live in Florida where it pours in the summer and so far I've had no rain in my panniers. Axiom also has the typhoon series which I believe functions like a dry bag similar to the ortliebs.

For the last 4 years, I've had a set of Transit waterproof panniers from Performance. I paid $60ish for the pair. They are made of rubberized nylon and are setup like drybags with rain flaps. I've ridden through very heavy rain several times and have never had a drop of water get to the inside.

Sadly, I haven't seen them for sale anymore.

I bought Nashbar Daytrekker Panniers then i coated the crap out of them with Kiwi water repellent spray.
Most of my stuff, I drop into a garbage bag, or back pack when stuffing it in the pannier. I've rode through some hefty downpours and my things have stayed dry.

My only complaint about the se panniers is they are a tad small. They're big enough for my work commute carrying lunch, a change of clothes, a few odds, and ends plus emergency/rain gear - but that's about it. Most mornings they're stuffed.

I've been using Louis Garneau Beta-Stream panniers for almost a year. I gave them a going-over with Scotch Gard before last winter, and my stuff was never damp, even after several miles through the pouring rain.

I completely agree. This almost always proves true when buying just about anything. I was just wondering if the starting price for quality/waterproof was in fact $150-160, which is what I've seen in a few stores in my city, or if a better deal was available.

After reviewing this thread, and doing some research, I decided to buy some Ortlieb backrollers for the cheapest price I could find them online, which was $109.99 with shipping and handling.
