San Diego Bike The Bay

Any one else riding this this Sunday? Two years ago it was my first organized ride. There is only one option-25 miles. At the time that was my biggest ride since high school. This year I threw a brake on the fixed gear bike and will be riding it with that. The Coronado Bay Bridge is the only climb. I target is to average 17 mph. I did it at 14 two years ago. Yes, I know it isn't a race, but I still like to put some challenge in it. Missed it last year since I didn't sign up in time, and this one does fill up fast.

Not going but I think that would be a fun route!

My only thought is that any gearing that will enable you to average 18 while moving (so you can get your 17 average) will make that bridge a tough SOB to get over. Wear comfy shoes and have fun.

https://ridewithgps.com/trips/1696513 16.5 mph avg. This time I got smart and filtered toward the front at the start and missed the worst of the fat tire traffic. Strava server is down so I uploaded to RWGPS.

Is the "Bike the Bay" the same thing as the old "Tour of Five Cities"?

(five minute break/intermission)

Just went upstairs and checked my T-shirt from the ride, (and I'd have to lose a whole lot of weight before I can wear that shirt again). The shirt says "Grand Bicycle Tour of Five Cities" and "1982". Above the graphics, (graphics show the bridge, the Hotel del, a palm tree, a bike rider on a ten speed, and the downtown skyline), are "San Diego - Coronado - Imperial Beach - Chula Vista - National City". I remember we went over the Coronado Bridge, through Coronado, down the isthmus, and back up to the starting point through Chula Vista and National City. I remember it being a very fun ride.

p.s. I don't remember there being any rest stops/sags. We were all on our own.

Similar, but this is the sixth year that they allowed bikes in the Coronado Bridge. The move all motor traffic to single lanes on the normaly Eastbound side and bikes go over the west bound lanes.. I'll post video.
