My wife and I write and I am a photographer as well. We plan to combine travel writing with photography. If I can swing it, my goal would be to include cycling vacations among those travels-- but, having the bikes along wherever possible is a must.

Since I bought my wife a hybrid a few years ago the hydrids go with us on all our driving vacations. I usually research the area before we depart and we have ridden in some great places. I have taken my road bike along also but its just not fun riding at her pace, or on the gravel trails we usually seek out.

I even talked her into a mini vacation to the wine country of California and we rented bikes (Specialized hybrids) and did two days riding in Napa, one in Sonoma. Beautiful!

No but I take our folding bikes and ride them all the time when we are on Holliday.

Yes I do, but it depends on the type of "vacation".
For family vacations in the woods, I definately take my hybrid.
For triathlon club vacations, I obviously take my tri/road bike.

My husband and I are heading down to Santa Cruz, San Luis Obispo and Monterey on 9/6. We're taking our hybrids and have most of our vacation planned around riding. I had posted in the regional forums and asked for tips of great places, and got plenty. So, we mapped them all out. I can't wait. Each ride looks fantastic. We'll just park the car and use the bikes. Should get plenty of miles in over the 12 days we're down there.

I only take a bike if I know I would really use it. That said, it's easy enough to travel with a bike. Select airlines will allow free bicycle transportation; just wheel it in! Some Amtrack lines let you roll it onto a train car, others must be checked. Then again, if you're driving... why not put it on the rack?? Just be sure to keep it secure everywhere. Here in a few days I'll be riding my hybrid to the Airport and it's goodbye Dayton

I consider my hybrid the "scout" bike. I usually take it on vacation when I don't know the road conditions. I guess I like the security of the slightly wider tires and upright position over my road bike.

Yes, of course! Either my hybrid or hybridized mountain bike. Here what I did with my 5 years old son. About 100 miles of riding in 3 days + a lot of walking and AWD fun lol I can't imagine me NOT taking our bikes when going for vacation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hM_kzp-n5i8

Hoping to order my Giant Escape this week as I don't yet have a hybrid. Can't wait to post in the picture thread as I started last summer on a Walmart mountain bike.

I don't know when our next vacation will be, the Giant Escape is my vacation this year, but I plan to take it from now on. Probably just myself but I hope to get either my oldest daughter and/or my wife into biking for exercise as well to give me a riding partner. Then I would have to haul more than 1, but definitely plan to take mine.

I didn't start riding until after last year's vacation. We go to Myrtle Beach, I'd love to cycle around the area there. I can't ride on the road where I live because of the Walmart bike and nothing but up and down hills. It would be fantastic to ride on the roads where it was flat. Now that I've found an exercise activity that I really enjoy and will keep up with, I don't want to give up exercise for a week on vacation, especially since it is in my favorite place.

Ok, even the junk Walmart job I'd probably take with me on the next vacation.
