The change up has evolved!

So I took up running about 2months ago as a change up to cycling and gain some extra form. Longest run has only been 7 miles constrained by doing it at lunch from work.

Got an invite from a few of my cycling team mates to join then and run the Coronado half marathon ekk! Crazy part is that I want to try it and do it at a decent pace I got about 8 wks to ramp up my miles and leg speed. I'm gonna have to double dip running and cycling days together in order to have enough miles under my belt

Jsig, that is awesome! 7 miles?!? That's a serious run--are you sure you're still a Clyde?

I was a runner before I took up cycling and running beat the crap out of me. By the end I was getting horrible shin splints and other "running" related issues. When I was running I was 6'3 and 210ish. Gravity is an evil mistress for us large guys. My advice would be, do run but to listen to your body and take care of any issues as soon as you notice them.

btw, there really is no such thing as gravity, the Earth sucks...

If I ride w/ lead weights in my jersey pockets, can I be accepted again?

It certainly might help me keep up so yes - please ride with lead in your pockets.

Do report back. I've been contemplating a 1/2 marathon for a while. Completed long rides up to 132 miles, plus a tough mudder (which had 12 miles of running before the other wonderfully stupid stuff), one 10-miler and several 5 milers. I'd like to get 1/2 done under 10 min / mile.

6'4, 210ish.

The key to running is the shoes. I went to a store that sold nothing except running shoes and gear. Like a LBS for runners. They inspected the shoes I was wearing for wear patterns, sized my feet and arches, looked at pressure profiles while walking/running, etc. I tried on 4 or 5 pairs of shoes and ran in them at the store indoor track. The difference in fit and support was very noticable. My aches and pains went away after getting the right pair of shoes.

Put no more than 500 miles on them and switch out even if they look new on the outside. Most runners I know switch after around 300 miles.

Yup. Completely agree. Saucony best for me, and they get tossed regularly.

I have Mizuno running shoes. They have an on-line fit calculator that gets you close. https://www.mizunousa.com/running/inn.../precision-fit but the store did the same and was more accurate. Plus I could try different brands.

I got some Reebok Realflex when I started up about 2 months ago. Awesome set of shoes!! Felt similar to the Nike Lunars I loved a few yrs ago w/ more padding in the forefoot area where I land.

Today is what I call first day of my training LOL
Lunch time...5.7 mile rocky trail run and 1367 ft of climbing https://www.strava.com/activities/81329609
Felt pretty good, though its a HARSH freaking warm up. Parking lot to 10% grade and boulders and rocks to deal with. Happyish with the pace though would have liked to keep it under an hour, walked allot of the techy stuff after I stubbed my big toe on a boulder switch back OUCH!!! I tried to spot lines smoother then I'd take on my bikes. About 85* out w/ breeze coming from the beach which felt nice but still freaking warm out. Photos are from my gopro3
