Hello All.
I'm going to be in Ithaca, NY next week and wondered if anyone knew if I could rent or borrow a decent road bike to cycle around Cayuga Lake on Wednesday, 11/13/13. It's about a 90 mile run. The local bike shops only rent mountain bikes or hybrids.
Many thanks for any ideas.

Welcome aboard .
I took the liberty of moving this from the Introductions forum in the hopes some of the NY natives will be able to help.

Best of luck in your efforts at connecting with somebody from Ithaca -- it’s a pretty small town. Cornell and Ithaca College make up a major portion of the population. I think you may end up having to settle for an available commercial rental.

Swan Cycles
Thanks for responding. I found Swan Cycles near Ithaca and Glenn Swan seems like a great guy and rents road bikes. So, I'll be trying to cycle around Cayuaga Lake on Wednesday. I'm taking lots of winter riding clothes.
Take care,
Joe

Just for planning purposes, the south ends of all of the lakes are hillier than the north end, and the west shores are usually hillier than the east. With Cayuga, my recollection is that the west side has more short steep hills than the east.

Forecast high is for 34 with 20% chance of snow. Enjoy.
BTW...I believe RollCNY's recollection is correct.

Right on about Cayuga
Your recollection of the topography is accurate. There are some moderate climbs on the east side of the lake and some longer steep climbs on the west, particularly in the southwest part near Taughannock Falls. The views were beautuful, especially when the sun was out.
Glenn Swann, who rented me an excellent Peugot rode bike, said there were far more scenic rides but I wanted to ride Cayuga.
Take care and thanks for responding.
