What are these for?

Hi, I got these things with my Shimano SLX Brakes, but I don't know what they're used for or what they do, could someone explain:

Thanks

It's a safety device, technically called a snap ring, it is fitted over the knurled caliper mounting bolt, and stops them potentially rotating and becoming undone, if the bolt does loosen, it can only rotate until the pegs on the ring hit the frame or fork.

You can see in the linked tech doc how they are installed. https://techdocs.shimano.com/media/te...9830800232.pdf

It's an anti-skunk stink device, but this isn't a very high quality model. Most of the good ones also seal the mouth shut.

Your camera's macro mode needs adjustment.

I would have had no idea what it was even in sharp focus.
