Hi All,
Theres a really great cann****** road frame that I want to buy (its a second hand).
I'm not sure of its model but there is a dent on the down tube. Does not look so big but you cant miss it.
Its a great frame and I really want it ...
Should I avoid this frame ?
Will it affect the riding ?

If the dent is not so big I wouldn't worry about it. However, you should get a decent discount on the bike/frame. We were going to buy a tandem from the same manufacturer last year with a pretty good dent in the top tube, but they wouldn't knock much off the price, so we found a better deal elsewhere.

Some dents are of no significance.Others are. Even frames with slight dents often sell for a song.

Aluminum tubes are not the best when dented. Cdale uses very thin walls and are susceptible to this. Probably not a problem, but i'd avoid it, personally. Will it be your primary or a beater?

Look at the dent closely. Is the metal creased sharply? If so, definately avoid. Where is the dent? If it is near the headtube, especially on the underside of the tube, avoid. A small, smooth dent at at mid tube is probably OK, but I would be wary none the less.

I would stay away from a dented alu downtube. The DT is the most stressed tube in the main triangle and where most frame failures occur. Wouldn't feel good about it.

Pfft. I wouldn't buy a dented anything, especially second hand. There will be other deals, and other places to buy what you want. Don't settle.

"Its a great frame and I really want it ..." Then you're going to buy it regardless of what we say, right? My take would be that the dent would bother the heck out of me even if it were not structurally adversely effecting the tube strength.

Pfft dude...One of the best deals I ever got was on a used Cdale with a dent in the TT. Rode it for 2 years and sold it for over $300 profit.
