Determining Miyata frame year/model??

I've found a Miyata bike that is a great fit for my girlfriend, but I would like to find out the year and model of this particular frame before making the purchase. The previous owner has covered the frame in tape to hide/disguise the bike, but I can see the serial number. It is SU 52036. Does anyone know how to decifer the Miyata serial numbers? This very light, lugged frame is in great shape with Shimano 600 component group. Anyone know anything about this one? Thanks

I understand the curiosity about the bike, but if its a great fit, and you're happy about it, why does age play a factor in the purchase decision?
