How come it gets so nice and warm on the Eastern slope, we actually hit 35 yesterday

It was 58 Deg.F when I left the house today to ride on my commute to work. Should be in the 70's by the time I ride home this afternoon. Yes, the motor-traffic sucks in SoCal but the weather is good!
