Hello all. My name's Ced, and I'm a road warrior/bike commuter from north jersey. Chef by trade, my ultimate passion has always been riding. I began riding bmx at age 9, and started racing local pub matches at 12. As I got older, I naturally progressed to freestyle bmx. Dirt jumping was my discipline of choice. As the tricks got gnarlier and the jumps got bigger, so did the danger. I parked the 20" after high school out of fear that I might seriously injure myself and not be able to work.
After college I sold my car and built a hard tail mtb shredding machine that I could commute on, as well as tear up the trails when the schedule allowed. As my skill level on my bike progressed, so returned my desire to compete.
Enter bike thief...goodbye mtb.
It hit especially hard...it was my most expensive build to date (relatively), not to mention it was my primary vehicle, and the ironic part about it was it was stolen from a train station where the bike rack was located adjacent to a police kiosk.
Instead of crying about it, I smartened up and bought a folding bike. I'm actually writing this on the train with my folder tucked away in the seat next to me. The convenience is unmatched, HOWEVER I feel like a super weenie while riding it. I was born and bred to shred on my bike, and all that went out the window when I got this folder...top speed 12mph...wouldn't dare split lanes on it...any form of aggressive riding is a distant memory.
I need to satisfy my itch for speed and competition again...so I went searching for a new discipline of cycling that a strapping young 28 year old lad could enter. To be honest, I was turned away from road racing simply because of the cost. I know I'm gonna get spammed with the "it's not the bike, it's the rider" lines, and I couldn't agree more. However my competitive nature and lust for good gear spells an empty wallet for me...plus it doesn't exactly spark my interest...as much as track racing...
For the past couple months I've been constructing a track racer and I intend to take some classes at my local velodrome. Once I obtain the skills required to blast around the track, I am excited to see where my future as a track racer will take me. I'm located in the middle of a trifecta of velodromes, all of which I plan on visiting prior to me even taking my bike, which at the moment isn't even complete. I hope to see some of you at the track, as I have a lot to learn.

Welcome! From a fellow North Jersey commuter.
Sometimes I take my folding bike on the train(PATH)
also to save time. What kind of folder do you have
that you can only squeeze 12mph? Really small/tiny
wheels? Gears? I'm an overweight, slow guy in my
early forties; and I can easily go over 15mph on my
