Wee little speakers for the bike?
Can't abide earbuds on my rural rides; I need to know when Mr. Logging Truck is approaching from behind. That sounded perverted. Anyway, I am picturing something like this:

I was on a ride this morning with a guy that had Mozart blasting. I just assumed it was from an iPhone in a jersey pocket with no external speaker. It was pretty loud.

I really hope for your sake that you brought your flame suit with you this morning!
That said, someone I work with found one (external smartphone speaker) at a bookstore or something for under $10 and I can hear that crap several rooms away.
Get one and pray you don't get clotheslined on the MUP!

I use a small bluetooth speaker which resides inside a stem bag. I used to use my smartphone to stream music from, but now I use an old phone (cracked screen) also running bluetooth inside the stem bag. No wires. Works great!
BTW, no more needing to say "On Your Left" or "Behind You" on MUPs.

My rides are almost always solo, long, and rural. No MUP's, no other riders. Just a dude on a bike out in the sticks huffing up every available hill.

I had this "music bullet" rigged up on my handlebars for a while. Worked really well but I had to stash it if I got caught in rain.

around here on the bike paths, its always the senior citizens out for a toodle with cheap bar mounted am/fm radios blaring AM sounding music. I always figure its kinda goofy but hey, they are outside getting some exercise so good for them.

Bluetooth headset on the right ear.. at least that is what I actively do. I'm able to hear road noise no problem and tell which direction the traffic is coming from even if their out of my line of sight, only issue I've had is it can't compensate for a ton of wind while riding if someone calls you.. you hear them fine but not the other way around.

^ Speechless! I have no doubt both contraptions are real AND functional.. LT I think you've found your answer! Lucky for you, you probably already have all of the machinery to get started.
Seriously though, have you considered your music device of choice with the volume on low and a very low noise cancelling set of earbuds with the right ear in and left ear out? Possibly just cut off the left bud as to not even tempt yourself?

Reminds me of when I lived in Huntington Beach on the 4th of July.... there would always be roaming paradea of beach cruisers with a boombox bike in the mix.

You do realize that with no water bottle holders (i.e. no water bottles) and the lack of a big and small chain ring, the weightlessness of this bike makes it all but fly up hills.
In all seriousness, my 3 year old is loving his Strider without training wheels and will sing his heart out at the request. No need for speakers.
