I would very much like this. I like cycling and I like girls. I find men in spandex somewhat of an awkward thing, women on the other hand ! I am sure it is just as good as the racing among men.

Great idea. A world dominated by men hasn't exactly made for peace on Earth.

Oh man... If you think men are violent, then you don't know women.

Hopefully it gets televised. We get television coverage of the women's races for the local stage race (Nature Valley Grand Prix) and it's pretty impressive, even if it's a hair slower than the men's race. It can only help the sport to get more people involved, regardless of which chromosomes they have.

"Women's races have had financial difficulties - little television exposure, little media fallout and, as a result, few sponsors," said UCI sport director Philippe Chevallier in a phone interview. "We are working hard so that will change," he said, acknowledging that "it's a long-term job."
Tranlsation: There isn't enough demand to keep this thing afloat, but by golly we're going to try and fake some!

The Tour de France feminin failed for lack of sponsorship money.

This is a glorified crit. Good idea. Better than no women 's race and will be something more for spectators waiting for the TDF finish.

Unfortunately not a women's grand tour.

They were well beyond this in the 20th century. The TDF feminin was a real stage race. It didn't work commercially, and got cancelled.

This rice is nice, but a side show compared to the TDF feminin.

Bike racing is a marginal sport, with a tough sell as a commercial proposition. Women's bike racing all the more.

If you actually want more for women's bike racing, show up and cheer for the women's pro 123 at your local crit.

Mountain bike racing, endurance races and cyclocross all seem more "welcoming" to women.
Road racing and TDF, in particular... not so good. Not sure about RAAM. I read "Hell on Two Wheels" recently and it didn't paint a rosy picture, in terms of the solo women's race.
Then again, I got turned off by TDF and road racing a long time ago anyway due to all the doping... I have no idea how much doping happens with top women riders compared to top male riders. I find the yearly Tour Divide mountain bike race much more compelling than TDF.

I don't race, but I think I should take some time to keep track of local women's races and cheer them on.

I wonder if doping is a problem in female cycling as well.

Hahahha true

i think the world needs to calm down and stop spewing feminist dribble. We get it. Its getting old. Ppl still talk as if women get beaten on a daily basis....

as for the tdf , not sure id watch it, for the same reasons i dont watch Womens hockey, but i guess i see no reason why it should not exist.

A certain amount of money gets spent. It can be divided up however the race organizers choose. In women's tennis the Grand Slams give equal pay. In cycling they might actually grow the cycling market considerably by giving women equality in high end events. Pro racing is so profoundly eff'ed with all the endless doping it needs a fresh start.

Women's tennis isn't analogous. People pay to watch women's tennis, and it gets ratings on TV. Neither is true for women's professional bike racing.

The TDF organIzers tried it and they lost money. They're a for profit organization. If they thought they could make money running a women's tour again, I'm sure they would.

How much did they lose versus how much they made on the men's tour? How much extra would it cost to start the girls 30 minutes after the boys.

I like visiting France a lot but it's still a sexist society.
