British man cycling around the World... With a message.

Hi all,

Yesterday morning, I was contacted by a man named Derek Boocock.

He's a British man whose cycling around the world and asked whether I could publicise his trip.

Now, cycling around the world isn't anything new, many people take off on these trips all the time. However, his reasoning behind embarking on this journey is what I found to be exceptional, and inspiring.

You can read about Derek's journey here:

Please take the time to give it a read, it is well worth it.

I will be interviewing Derek in the summer once he reaches Canada, so watch out for that interview around mid-July on my website.

Cheers,

Jack.

I agree, his story is inspiring. Cancer is such a horrible disease.

I'm looking forward to meeting the man! Such character, to continue to do what he wants to do, despite all of the hurdles.

I have been a long-time lurker of bikeforums.net (and especially the touring forum), but I finally registered to add that I have met Derek and he is the real deal. I met him in a hostel in Hanoi, Vietnam and talked to him about bike touring, traveling, and many other things. In fact, I had long been considering doing some bike touring in the US, and he convinced me that it is definitely something I want to try.

On a side note Derek is becoming famous here among backpackers in Vietnam... I am in the south now and found that a guy in my current hostel also met him previously!

Anyway Derek is a walking legend for those who have met him, and I would recommend checking out his story and blog per the links above.

One day, I hope in the very near future. In all honesty, I am both excited and anxious to interview Derek.

Well, good luck to him, though I am still rooting for the good old days when people bottled this stuff up.
