S-WORKS Venge - Custom Paint Project #3
Starting to play with some concepts and ideas for the next custom design. As some of you may know, I seem to gravitate towards the motorsports liveries. Here's a few ideas I have been sketching out and playing with on paper.....let me know what you think?
Gulf -
Martini -
And a little Vettel Helmet inspiration....

I like the first one the best.
When you have logos near the bottom bracket won't they pretty much get covered up by the crank? You have a lot of area there where the top tube and the seat tube meet. Maybe you could move it there?

Did you paint that metallic/ sparkle sweet a$$ red bull frame?
That process is really quite remarkable and I think there is a lot of potential for lighter colors to utilize that effect, Darker colors seem to hide a lot of the effort in that paint, which imo is bad.
Quite honestly I think that frame was bastardized by the red bull and other corporate logos.
Unless they are paying you, don't give any company free publicity. Use your own design and ideas.

I like the first and the Vettel colors the most, although the Vettel is a little too busy for me (and I like busy schemes).

Really digging the second one. By the way, another F1 fan here. What do you think of the new V6 engines? God I hate them. They sound rubbish....

Gulf is the the one. Everyone has a memory of their favorite car, or motorcycle, with that livery.

I hate them as well. One of the best parts of F1 was the high rev'ing screams and whines that the engines put out. I really hope they figure out a way to bring that back. They don't sound terrible, they just don't sound like a F1 car.

I understand people's mixed opinions on why would you want to put a logo when they aren't paying you or you aren't sponsored by them. I totally understand this, and I think this can go either way. The main goal of any of my designs is to make sure the bike looks like a legit team bike. I am in no way affiliated with Specialized, but if I were to leave off the S-Works on the down tube, then it would most likely look off and not look like a real design. I understand the logo could be moved or relocated, but a bare down tube usually looks off to me. For something like the secondary RB logo, the only reason for this is because it's a direct homage to one of Vettel's helmets. Of course you could do light blue and orange without any logo's and many people would instantly recognize gulf colors. Same with Martini stripes.

Are you planning on painting this design yourself, or is there a custom painter that you work with?
Ps...the new F1 engines sound terrible.

OP,
Do you use a particular software to create your renderings? If so, what do you use?

Don't you guys get tired of seeing Gulf and Martini livery? There are some great ones out there from classic DTM, JGTC, IMSA, and others.

A bit of a shame the logo will be covered by the chainrings and cranks.

These are all done on Keynote on a Mac. Unfortunately my Illustrator skills are pretty limited although if I took the time to learn I am sure it would speed up the process in the long run!

Definitely agree there are loads of classic motorsports liveries and some great ones at that! I am a little partial to classic Porsche race cars personally, so that's where the Gulf and Martini come from. Rothmans, Apple, Lowenbrau, Jagermeister, Newman, definitely some great others...

I respect your desire to remain respectful to original design. And you have a point about branding and its effect. I just say this to you, clearly you are creative and have an eye for design, as far as the frame goes, The frames you are painting are pretty recognizable to the cycling community, maybe, just.. maybe... a lack of branding would serve you well.
none the less, keep up with the good work.

You mention "the next custom design." Could you link to the thread(s) with your previous finished bikes? I favor no logos, btw. Let the design speak.

I like them all, but Red Bull the best. Its more creatively different, for lack of better words. One thing in your favor is that the Venge is a really good bike.

Both are very cool! Love the blue/purple on the Red Bull.
