First hybrid build

This is my first venture into hybrid bikes. I've ridden mtbs for a while but decided I wanted to do a few more road miles this year and I have neck problems that rule out drops.

The bike is a real mix of parts. I bought the Dawes Discovery 701 alloy frame off ebay and had it powdercoated, and also got the Specialized carbon fork off ebay.

Everything else was stuff I'd accumulated over the years, mostly mtb stuff: Shimano XT gears, cassette, shifters and brakes, Cook Bros RSR crankset, WTB saddle and carbon bars. I'd had the wheels hanging round for a couple of years and swapped a pair of mtb tyres for the Bontrager Race Light Hardcase 700 X 28.

Since this pic was taken I've printed and added Dawes decals.

I've done a few long rides on it so far, and am really pleased with it, it's light and quite a bit faster than the mtbs. It was a real labour of love building it up and it's cost me less than £150 on top of the stuff I had hanging around.

The only slight issue I have is that I'm not sure that I shouldn't have gone to 32 tyres as the roads around where I live are rough in places, and they would also give more flexibility for riding on forest fire roads.

I like the Cook Bros cranks. I wish I still had my old Toplline cranks

That is a nice looking build.

I am a fan of nice larger profile tires since much of my riding is on crushed stone trails. I like some of the cyclocross tires with minimal tread to give me some good purchase on the trails. They seem to roll nicely on pavement as well.

A few more pics showing home made decals.

Just been on a 30 mile ride and am really pleased with this bike. Couldn't stop smiling (except on the very steep hills).
