I guess my first real (outside intro) post should be an achievement.

Bigger guy here (250), just getting into cycling for real the past couple of months on my Trek 7.2 fx. Commuting 14 miles/day (6/week) and adding some rides after and weekends (long so far is 30 miles, but gaining distance fast.)

I'll shoot for 400 this month. Going to step things up from the past week.

MTD: 86.6 miles (according to strava... Who knows how accurate?!)

How often do you guys update your "MTD"?

When I feel like it. Sometimes it's after every ride or run sometimes once a week.

I update after pretty much every ride. It is like a ritualistic way to acknowledge to myself what I did that day.

I actually record riding in 3 places, a spreadsheet, here and on another site where I also report walking. They are a regional cooperative effort between a health facility and the people that support a local 165 mile rail trail system. They have a 165 mile challenge to complete 165 miles of walking/hiking/riding between May 1 and some time in the fall (October 1) and I am at 200+ miles already... they have a double and triple challenge as well which I should accomplish by later this month, and July respectivbely. Get Your Tail on the Trail *

Whoops, I had a ride marked for 6/1 and it was actually on 6/3. Almost cheated on my monthly mileage, LOL.

Shorter than I wanted last night because the trail ended prematurely. I wanted to get down on the road and continue into town, but I was up on a plateau with a steep drop-off down to the road. Gave up, turned around, and headed back.

6/3 - 11 miles
6/5 - 9 miles

MTD - 20 miles
YTD - 300 miles

Managed to make it out tonight for an hour.Haven't been out on the roads i a while as I've been hitting bike trails over the last handful of rides. Changed it up a bit when I was about to cross one of the more major roads and turned onto it. It's a 45 limit road but speeds can be anywhere from 30 mph idiots to 90 mph idiots. Very little traffic though. Just a car every now and then. Rode out to where I am usually crossing this road later in my normal loop. It was nice to get some speed going since I'm usually slogging along at 6-8 mph up the gravel roads or on the brakes holding speed down to 8 mph on the downhills.

6/3 - 11 miles
6/5 - 9 miles
6/6 - 10 miles

MTD - 30 miles
YTD - 310 miles

Have 45 miles so far. Shooting for 500 miles this month.

Wrapping up a ten race mountain bike series coming up on Wednesday. The way the numbers are working out I have 2nd place in my class locked up with one more race to go. Pretty excited about that. I raced cyclocross last two seasons and never got close to the podium. Winning is more fun!

Man, I don't know how you guys do those. That's around 120'/mile? My typical on the roads are 75-100'/mile and it exhausts me just going 15 miles. I don't know about you folks who ride the long rides go about it whether it is a circle back to your starting point or not though. That would make it even more impressive since for every mile you went up, you'd have gone down making it more like 240'/mile. That's how my rides are, so my climbing data is more like about 150-200'/mile. It just about kills me for 15 miles of that.

Been wanting to get out to a particular road but I've been avoiding another road that I think would take me there. Well, decided to venture down this road. It went down and down and down and down, very loose gravel. Heck with walking a bike uphill, I almost got off and walked down the hill. I crawled down it and it seemed to go forever. Only half a mile at 188' decent according to Ridewithgps. I think I decended down at a mere 1 mph slipping and sliding the whole time. Then finally it went back up, and up and up and up, again with quite loose gravel. It wasn't fun.

Finally, made it to the road I've been wanting to ride on and it was as awesome as I had thought. Beautiful countryside, some nice multiple 90° bends all in a row. As I got on the road I see a cat walking along up by the bend and it freezes for a moment before darting away. I climbed up to that 90, around and hit another 90 and there the cat was laying chilling out on the inside corner, LOL. Just laid there looking at me as I rode around the bend. Real pretty cat, a molten looking light and dark tans and greys.

Now I need to find a way to this road further down towards the beginning where it hits the main highway so I can ride it's entirety. Looks like I could continue on another road that I have ridden to and turned around at the highway and ride the highway just a mile or so to get to this road's beginning. It opens up a whole slew of new roads to go explore as well.

6/3 - 11 miles
6/5 - 9 miles
6/6 - 10 miles
6/7 - 15 miles

MTD - 45 miles
YTD - 325 miles

Only 115'/mile so a middle of the "hilly" category ride.
I've had other days where I've climbed more gain but were flatter. 2 weeks ago was a 10,400' pickup Century (104'/mi) but that included 8 repeats of a hill that is 1.7 miles @ 6% avg grade.

Gearing choice as well helps. A few times yesterday I was looking for a bailout gear that just wasn't there.

Flat as I can make a ride here is about 55'/mi. Just get used to that being 'normal'.

Only one hill was one that you had to ride back down. No other way as it's a dead end after a 2.9 mile avg 7% grade (1080' elevation gain) road.
