Anybody know of any comfy bicycle helmets that can fit on large heads? My local shop only carries size large in a bike helmet and it's tight enough to give me a headache after wearing it for about 30 seconds. Your advise is more than welcome.

Do you have a long head, or a wide head, or both? Bell makes helmets that fit my head better then any other; I have a "long head"... Giro seems to be a rounder helmet, made for wider heads, or round heads... All I can recommend is to visit as many shops as you can, and try on as many helmets as you can. I made the mistake of saving $10, and going mail order for a helmet, what a waste of $60! Good luck

I have learned through experience that one-size-fits-all actually means, "this hat fits everyone EXCEPT you!" The only way I can get a decent fit with hats and bicycle helmets is to shave my head.

Joe is right. Don't go mailorder. Just keep shopping around until you find one that fits.

Thanks for the help folks. In response to the first question, I suppose it would probably be classified as a rounder head than a long head. The bicycle helmet I tried on really squeezes at the temples so round sounds right. I know that as far as like baseball/softball helmets go (in case this helps your reference point at all), I have to wear a XXL helmet whidch is almost always hard to find. Anyhow, I'll be sure to check out that website but first visit all the bike shops in town to see if I can find the right one. I know how stuff like that goes. Made the mistake of ordering mail order shoes one time which ended up costing more than the ones in the store because of all the shipping costs. So, thanks again, I'll definitely do some local searching and see if maybe I can find either the Bell, or Giro brand at one of the stores.

You don't know just how right you are....

I've a large roundish head and found Giro helmets fitted me the best, MET were okay, and Specialized hopelessly long and narrow, but do try them on.

Modern helmet retention systems accommodate various head shapes and sizes much better than those of just a few years ago. I (midsized, roundish head) have had good luck with Bell and Giro.

I have a big head (wear a large Bell). A friend of mine has a new x-large Specialized ($34.00). I tried that thing on and it is huge, a new experience for me. For the price, it is also well built and nice looking.
