How do you remove the belt when taking apart the tandem? Obviously, loosening the eccentric would be a real pain getting it back to the correct tension at re-assembly. The Gates docs say do not roll off the belt. Do you do it anyway? TandemGeek suggested pulling one of the cranks. Any other methods?

Have not taken the tandem apart... but I have swapped cranks and installed the belt. Compared to removing a crank, I would just rotate the eccentric on mine. IMHO it is really not that hard to get belt re-tensioned again.

I would not go the route of pulling a crank while the belt had the tension load per spec. That is a lot of pull on the crank and regardless of crank type (Octalink, Square Taper, 24mm axle, etc) could be tricky to remove the crank in a straight path. You could really mess up something badly (BB or axle for example).

Use the eccentric as it is meant to be used.
