I started riding this spring after back surgery put my running out of commision last year. I bought a Schwinn Varsity 1200 and had my local police department tech. adjust and tune it. It rides ok, but it is a $200 bike. I got a TREK Millennia today that needs a little tlc. I can't find much information on it. Does anyone know anything about these bikes? Any suggestions on upgrading components?

I put new tires and shifters on it today. It has been sitting in a barn for 10 years. Our PD bike tech is going to go over it tomorrow to get it rideable.

The saddle has springs and the seatpost looks like it's a "suspension" version. Not sure but that might be overkill. Or they may cancel each other out. Are you sure you want/need to upgrade components? Doesn't sound like you've ridden it much, so it might be good just to ride it for a bit to see how it is then decide. Probably repack anything with grease & ball bearings - wheel hubs, bottom bracket & headset. Brake pads likely dry if it's been sitting a long while.

The seat is quite bouncy. As far as components I am not at all sure. I was just wondering if anyone knew about them. If there was a certain component that is typically a problem and could be alleviated with an upgrade It would be helpful to know before I have issues. I will just ride it how it's sits for now. I was running 30-50 miles a week so I imagine my biking should be roughly 3-4 times that if I keep the same time frames for outings.

Dump the suspension seat post and replace with a rigid post of the same OD. $20 fix.

I bought one of these just about a week ago. I've only ridden mine about thirty miles so far yet the factory parts, namely the Altus line of Shimano seems to be working flawlessly. I'm not a fan of grip shift but it also works just as it should. That sprung stem? Yeah, it's a little disconcerting at first but you get used to it.

I would suggest putting some miles on it and see how you prefer riding it. It seems like a good candidate for a gravel/light exploring tool.

I plan on changing the seat on mine to a Brooks flyer version, the bars to some kind of butterfly or something reminiscent of my Raleigh Superbe's style bar. Grip shift may stay for a while out of interest in the design's reliability. Oh, and planet bike fenders in silver from Rod's bike shop here in St Cloud.
