Replace a smaller ring for Campy Record Tripple option?
Hello everyone
I hope that you can help me with a question about replacing my smallest chain ring on my Campy Record triple 50/40/30, I have a Campy Centaur 12/30 cassette with long cage Campy Record RD.
I usually don't use 30 ring a lot, and it is more than enough for me for city commutes . However, with a loaded panniers , the 30 is not good enough for me on some stiff hills. Translated : i am weak and suck at climbing hills .
Can someone tell me if there is any option / 3rd party smaller ring to replace my 30 ring?
Thanks as always!

Campy uses the same 72 mm bolt circle for their granny chainrings as Shimano and many others so getting a smaller granny ring is easy. You can go as small as 24T. The change is easy and cheap and will indeed provide a significantly lower low gear.
I replace the 30T granny on my Chorus triple crank (OEM as 53/42/30) with a 26T granny and it worked fine. Your 50/40/30 should be even better. The change does compromise the shift from the granny back to the middle ring a bit but you are almost never in a rush for that one anyway.

I have a 50-40-24 on my 135-72 BCD Campag triple *, it's not the record model ,
IE it's not hiding the 5th bolt behind the crank arm ..
* + a 52-42-26 ..
[Using, long ago discontinued, Camapag Euclid MTB derailleurs ]
Sugino's 2014 (the alloy, not the year) ones are about $16.

While the mechanicals can fit smaller rings then stock. Some loss of shifting ease is had too. So good technique is even more important as in soft pedaling and full lever swing with trim back likely. Andy.

I think several above meant 74mm BCD for the granny ring. That's the very common size for the granny chain ring on many triples.

Hello again. I am about to order the 24 ring 74BCD for my triple. I just want to confirm that my Campy Record Front Triple derailluer will be able to handle the 24T ring. I just check and it is barely enough clearance. My rear is 12-30 cassette with long cage record RD.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Yes, the triple front derailleur will handle the 24T granny chainring, particularly with your 50T largest chainring. My Chorus triple fd cleared a 26T granny ring and I had a 53T largest chainring. However, you will not be able to use the smallest two or three cogs with the small granny as the chain will drag on the tail of the front derailleur and the rear derailleur is probably not going to wrap up enough chain to keep it snug. However, that's no loss as there is no reason to use these gears anyway.
