safe to ride missing a spring on the rear skewer?
See thread title. Wind blew the cassette side spring away.when I was changing tubes.
Not a big deal, replace sooner than later,or absolutely replace before pedaling?

The springs just help to hold the skewer centered in the axle for convenient positioning when you remount the wheel. But why did you completely unscrew the skewer and therefore drop a spring just to change a tube?

You could remove both and be fine. They don't do anything to hold the wheel in the bike, they just pop the skewer away from the wheel drops when you open the quick release.

As noted above the conical springs don't help hold the wheel on, they're a convenience item keeping the skewer centered so mounting is a bit easier. Just about the only thing you can do wrong with the springs is to install them backward. The small end goes toward the axle and the big end is out. Reversed, the spring can slide over the end of the axle, and interfere with the fir into the dropout, or cause the wheel to mount slightly crooked.

Thanks y'all.
It never occurred to me to leave it on. I also have gimpy wrists, so I like to have things at a chosen height when working on them. Being able to take the rear wheel off easily is also sort of celebratory after my last bike being an IGH. Have to deal with rack and fenders, too.

As noted, no reason to unscrew the skewer any more than the minimum to remove the wheel. I would expect a bike shop to have extras lying around they could sell you cheaply.
