Bikes: 2002 Mongoose DH 1.5, 1983 Raleigh Gran Prix

Has anyone been stoped by a motorist for something they thought you did?

Yesterday, some clown in a company van accused me of knocking off his driverside
rearview mirror as I was about to get off my bike at the Fred Meyer store.
He threatened to call the cops, and asked if I felt anything hit me as I was riding
my bike. He seemed to think that a cyclist caused the whole mirror assembly
to be sheared off his company's van. About a minute later, he took off and
drove around the block looking for other cyclists to possibly blame. He met
up with me at the northwest corner of the store, finally acknowledging that
I was not at fault. I called him a moron, and told him to "use his head".
If that mirror assembly would have hit me, I would have been knocked flat.

Apparently, I am gay, cute, wear "sweet pants"(I get that from my hill-billy roomate) and have a nice ass. My favorite is "Get on the sidewalk, ***!!"

Is it always the biking shorts that bring on the gay references, or simply because you're on a bike?

Would you get called a *** if you were wearing cargo shorts?

In Queensland you probably would. But then, I've never been called a *** anywhere else when I was riding, so it might not apply in your part of the world.

I've been called a criminal, a "dumb *****," and a terrorist. A cop actually thought I was a suspect in a terrorist threatening case because I was "A caucasian male in a white t-shirt on a bike" and, oh jesus, for some reason I tried to turn left in traffic and not use a crosswalk.

Bikes: EPX 303 (You probably never heard of it)

I had a similar experience years ago, when I purchased my first Raleigh 10 speed. It was "chopper yellow". As I rode to school, someone stopped me on the way and asked me where I got the bike. He said someone had just stolen his kid's bike and it looked just like mine. I just laughed and rode on. No use getting into an altercation.

I think he stopped you because he thought you were a Fred. - lol

I think he was just trying to pin the blame on someone. I guess
I looked like an esay target (Fred).

I wonder what his boss said when he saw the van.

"Way to go, Lance," while riding in the middle of a downtown lane, keeping up with traffic. Armsrong is waaaaaay overexposed, but he has done a lot for cycling and cyclists.

I got some rather wrong comments made my way by some 60 year olds

...I'd much rather have some 20-somethings do that...at least it's my age group...

Aw, they're just jealous because they're all out-of-shape fogies and can't pleasure their wives any more.
