Hello from British Columbia, Canada

Just joined the forum and stopped by to say hello and introduce myself.
I live in a small place, tucked away between mountains and started to commute to work.
I bike 10km on the dot, door to door, one way. Half the ride is in town and half on the highway. I am fortunate to ride a wide shoulder of the highway, both ways, with an average of 6' in width.

I am interested in learning more about making this commute as enjoyable as possible and getting ready for a new bike. Also interested in maintenance and keeping my bike in top shape.

Present ride is a 1997 Schwinn Moab with Deore components. Just installed new tires, cheap ones, Specialized Crossroads Flak Jacket.

I enjoy this commute immensely and hope to be able to do it for many years.

Cheers.

Welcome to BF! A 10k commute is good---not too long but not too short either. Enjoy it before the BC Winter Demon takes it away from you for a few months. Your mention of the tires gives rise to another thought, too---you’d be wise to carry a pump and a tube/tire puncture repair kit on a ride that long. I never minded walking my bike 1 or 2 miles to get home with a flat tire, but more than two miles gets into my “I don’t want to push a dead bike that far” zone.

We are very lucky here. My girls logged 39 days of skiing last winter. Full days that is, start at 8:30 and came home at 4:30. Schools here have one day a week when everybody goes skiing during season. Just kids having a blast all winter long. Nothing is taken away.
