Owies. I went down about 20 metres from my house. The SUV in front of me started fishtailing crazily towards a stop sign and I panicked and locked up my back wheel and tried to turn at the same time. The lady got out and asked if I was okay. Then we proceeded past the stop sign and I saw an ambulance and paramedics putting a cyclist in a gurney. I guess he went down at the same spot as me, just worse. The one little patch of road was like an ice rink!

How about putting "support your local" in 1/4 high letters...and "POLICE" in 6 inch high letters. Nothing wrong with a little support.

Largest sizes for the Shimano's and Nashbar's is 45/46 with the Lakes going up to 47/48. I'm probably going to order a Nashbar set in the next week or so; they're on sale for $39.99 USD (Lake's are similarly on sale and I'm seriously considering buying a set of both). I wish I'd bought two pair when I got the Lake's when MEC was dumping them

Thanks for the great info cam. I think I'm going to pick up a pair of the nashbar sandals, as they are 40USD and there is a 10% off coupon at the moment. They seem better than the lakes based on the fact that they are (reportedly) stiffer, cheaper, and have deeper lugs to protect the cleat. I'm picking up the biggest pair so I hope they will fit well. At least nashbar has a good return policy. If I get a pair before you do I'll bring them over for you to check em out.

I saw the SPD sandals on my bike trip last summer. They seemed pretty cool, but the first time I saw them I couldn't figure them out "she's wearing sandals...but she's clipped in...I'm confused"

I think the smallest/lightest and most versatile solution for me is to get SPD sandals, and then bring some light trail running shoes. If I'm going for a hike I'd like proper walking shoes, and if I'm just louging around camp I'm not really a fan of flip flops and would rather go barefoot or put on the walking shoes or SPD sandals. Also I'd rather not have laces on a cycling shoe, but thanks for the suggestion nonetheless.
