QR20 vs. TA20

What's the difference in a quick release 20mm and a Thru axle 20mm, should I look away from the 20mm QR if planning on a 8" front rotor?

I wouldn't worry about it. Qr20mm is simply built like a standard 20mm with a QR lever. Pretty easy to work with.

Some people complain of flexing, but those guys are hcor and seem to be like the pea and the princess.
