Sram to buy out MAVIC???? Is it true?
My shop buddy told me this over the weekend.
Can anyone confirm or deny???
If so, that Sram is throwing down the gauntlet. Going to provide an incredibly sweet "COMPLETE" component package.

PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This would kick ass...I would never have to buy from another company again (well except maybe fsa and marzocchi)...
As long as it doesn't change what make sram superior...good basic technology that works.

I checked out Bicycle Retailer and no news about it there.
He couldn't remember where he heard the info, (or wasn't telling)
Regardless, it'd be pretty awesome if they did.

If SRAM continues to expand at the rate they are, Shimano's not going to have anything left in the MTB world, and if that happens, it's only a matter of time till SRAM is competing with Campy on road bikes.

well im not overly fond of the idea having SRAM buy over any other companies. I like having smaller independant companies able to produce what they want.

Well Mavic is far from a small company, they're one of, if not the biggest wheel manufacturer out there.
But by the looks of it, there is no truth to the statement anyway, but that would be seriously cool!

I like Mavic and it would be pretty sweet for SRAM to own a wheel company so they can better take on Shimano (yes I know it was an April Fool's Day joke) but in all honesty, I still think SRAM should buy Sun-Ringle. They are underrated and undervalued as far as I can tell.

In any case, I don't think it matters. But I DO think that SRAM will be moving very soon to pick up a HUB company with an established reputation and customer base. SRAM COULD be making generic front and rear hubs right now as they have SACHS assets (with their internal geared hubs) in their portfolio. But I think what they're REALLY after lately is picking up BIG names and bringing them into the "family".
The masterplan is to wedge those OEM contracts away from Shimano. In order to do that, SRAM must be able to compete at EVERY component level with Shimano. This allows them to offer volume discounts for going "all SRAM" on a bike.
BTW, Truvativ still has a way to go as far as catching up with Shimano on crank quality. ISIS sucks. Hopefully the general trend of all parties toward external bearings will help them catch up.
