Epiphany: Riding is not like GI Joe

It's too early to go to sleep, so I'll share a rather dumb epiphany I had today.

I got new clipless sandals today and they're great. Trouble is, they're harder to clip into and out of than my normal shoes. I didn't realize this until I hit the mother of all rough patches in the bike ghetto^H^H lane this morning.

My normal reaction would be to unclip just in case something horrible happened -- like the bad guys in G. I. Joe who bail out of the planes just as the laser hits. I realized I was stuck just as trouble hit and had no choice but to ride it out -- and was surprised at how much MORE control I had than I thought. Apparently my bike skills have improved a bit. The bike's not exploding, and it's not going to hit you -- it's your best pal, the thing keeping you OFF the street.

Now one day I'm going to take this to the extreme -- and then to the pavement -- but until then, I know that I'm probably safer on the bike.

And knowing is half the battle.

Destro was a Scottish nobleman, if I remember correctly. I hate to get technical, but it was the Cobra guys who jumped out of the planes just in time. [Dork Quotient exceeded on last post, must roll twenty sided die and await further instructions.]

My wife requests a pic of you in a lycra kilt. I told her it was unlikely due to the fact it is probably against the law to "frighten the horses".

I have taken this quest upon myself to go and find the red haired scotsman. With us being in the same town and all, it's only a matter of time before I find him.

Why did Hasbro stop making the 3.5in GI Joe's and go back to the 12in? I really loved the 3.5in. We would take them apart and make like hybrid GI Joe's and give them their own new names.

Actually it may be a bit longer. Bike's been in the shop since Friday with no end in sight. I commute to/from campus on a green and black Gary Fischer; look for the red ponytail peeking out of the helmet.

What shop is it at? I'm never down by your campus. Try the other campus south of the river.

Discovery Cycles on Anderson Lane. The owner's mostly a MTB guy, but he's the greatest guy on the planet. I like small shops where the owner knows your name and your bike. Apparently I've done something subtle and wrong to the rear hub / cassette / something that's taking a while to puzzle out. In the meantime, the MTB is great for commuting and the weekend trails but it's just too sad to hit the long road rides without my red and white compadre.
(PS: I'm not actually Scottish -- I just like Billy Connelly)

Sweet dude, thats my same LBS. I love those guys. Alex is so rad when it comes to talking to about anything. I don't know the new guys name but when it comes to urban riding, he knows his stuff. We need to hook up and ride sometime man. I ride the nut almost every weeknight after 7. I ride the greenbelt with some other buddies too, I haven't gotten around to Emma Long, I heard it was quite the experience lol. Road riding...I got a road bike but I suck, so if you want to see me in lycra, then I'm down.

I don't actually own any lycra, either. Kilt or otherwise. But yeah, we should ride!

..and why is it frikkin lasers, anyway?? The action figures came armed to the teeth with projectile weapons, esp. Roadblock. gone and given him a gay laser instead![/i]

The animators even had to color-code for us stupid kids...blue lasers for G.I. Joe, red lasers for Cobra (I think. I watched it on a black and white television. )
