Any Clyde's/Athena's doing Palm Springs Century?

I signed up once again. Couple of Team Unlikely Cyclist but not the number of riders like we had there last year. Curious if I will see @TrojanHorse, @ahultin and son....any others? Those of us from TUC will be starting at 6:30 and meeting near start at 6:15 by empty field where the crane with the big flag is parked. Any of you all want to meet us...the more the merrier. One of the ladies from TUC is much faster than I am so I will get dropped in the first 10 miles with the wind and that initial climb.

I'm going - I put a thread on the SoCal board with my bizarre itinerary but... either way I'm planning on starting at 6:30 after a 15 mile ride from my hotel.

I think I'll do the century route till the 55 mile route turnoff, and finish that course (which would be 65 miles on top of my initial 15) and then ride the 25 mile route with the rest of my family, which will net me 105 for the day. I may struggle to get back to the starting line by 10:30 am though - that's going to be the trick. I'll see if I can track you guys down before the start.

I'm working on my tolerance for riding in the drops, which ought to help big time with that blasted wind.

If the weather underground is to be believed it will be UNSEASONABLY warm out there, and not particularly windy either. Cross your fingers! I mean... 60 degrees at 7 am is the coolest it will be all day? That's outstanding!

Sebastian and I are doing the century again this year. The blind stokers club was short captains so I will be on the tandem with a tag team of stokers switching out at the lunch stop which should make it somewhat interesting

@TrojanHorse, there has been very few windy days this year so far.

Looks like there's a High Wind Advisory until Friday morning... knowing our luck it'll continue right up to the minute we get to desert hot springs and then die down to prevent us from enjoying the tail wind portion.

Weather Underground predicts winds on Saturday in Palm Springs to be NW at 4 mph at 0600, veering to NE at 2 mph by 1000, to E at 4 mph by 1300 and holding that the rest of the afternoon. They are also predicting a high of 85! They predict similar light winds for Cabazon, White Water and Thousand Palms.

We'll see!

Praying that weather report holds true. Bringing the new Domane and longest ride I've done on it is 48 miles and FLAT.

You really need to watch Desert Hot Springs because that's where the wind is. Keep your fingers crossed! It was PLENTY windy riding through Brea and Fullerton tonight - I hope that doesn't migrate east.

Say hi when you inevitably cruise by - I'm fairly certain I'll have my white Cruisin the Conejo jersey on (because it's going to be damn hot!). If you find yourself riding along suddenly enjoying a really good draft... yeah, check for the conejo jersey.

So guess who's showing up in Palm Springs / Palm Desert this weekend?

IMPORTANT NOTE: The President of the United States will be arriving in Palm Springs and traveling through the Coachella Valley during this event. As such, there may be a temporary impact to riders on the 100 & 50 mile routes at undisclosed locations and times. Riders may be asked to stop temporarily along portions of the 100 & 50 mile routes. Law enforcement officials remind all riders that they are required to obey lawful orders during this event.

Could he pick a WORSE weekend to gum up traffic with his presidential motorcade? What's a guy who was born in Hawaii, adopted Illinois and lives in DC doing goofing off in Palm Springs anyway? And double great - I'm kind of going rogue this year and departing with the century riders at 6:30 but splitting off and finishing the 65 mile route on my own so I can meet up with the wife and kids. I hope that doesn't cause me more heartache.

HunkerDown - it doesn't matter what color helmet you wear, it still sticks up above the crowd by about a foot. What time are you starting?

As long as he's not RIDING in the TdPS... can you imagine that circus?

Still, what's wrong with a multi-million $$ round of golf? Couple hundred grand for air force 1 fuel, couple dozen secret service agents, his staff of 40, their staff, a couple floors at a 5 star hotel. I wonder what my cut of that bill is.

Awe, I'd have driven down for it if I knew earlier it was coming. Guess I need to keep up with events more. That said, I'll look for one to ride up in NorCal this summer.

Hey TH - I always plan to leave in mid-pack but it seems that I always get anxious and take off early. Figure to find me in the third wave or thereabouts. Will be nice to see you. Been too long!

You'll have to catch me then... I'm riding 17 miles to the start (leave hotel at 5:15 or as close as my dragging ass can make it) and then leave with the first eager beavers. There's nothing so fine as getting passed by hordes of skinny people right off the bat. I'll probably loiter at the first rest stop a bit because that will be mile 38 or so for me.

I'll keep an eye peeled!
