Riding in Chicago?

Does anyone here live in Chicago? I have never been and I might be heading up for a weekend with my wife (she is some conference). I was considering bringing my bike and riding around Saturday. Are there and cool rides around town that would be worth it? Also, how bad is bike theft? I would probably want to stop at a bar or two etc. and don't want to have to worry about crazy bike security...

Thanks!

Just got back from visiting my sister this weekend. I always, and I mean always take my bike with me. Did a nice 26 mile ride downtown on Saturday on the fixed gear. So many bike lanes and bikes on the streets that it is very comforting. There are some really nice rides like the Lakefront Path that runs between the city and the lake. No cars, just runners, walkers, bladers, cyclists, etc. Runs all the way to Indiana I believe. Take a good U lock with you and it should be alright if you are not in a stabby part of town. Honestly, there are so many people there that theft in the middle of the day with bolt cutters/portable cutter is not really going to be likely I don't think.

I live in the city, you'll be fine, bike theft isn't terrible so you should be perfectly fine with everything. Depending on where you'll be riding there are bike lanes but most streets here don't have them, which you should still be perfectly fine with because traffic is pretty mellow and drivers are nice, but obviously be wary because you may get the occasional aggressive driver (I usually always pick up one on my morning commute). Also some streets are chock full of potholes nearly like a warzone though, so there's also that to look out for.

Im here this weekend. Im staying a few blocks from grant park. Ill be riding around tomorrow. I think ill head out along the lakefront a ways, and probably find a good spot for some drink.

There were a few cool looking group rides, but they all start around 8 am...

Anything in particular i should check out?

If anyone wants to meet up, ill be around all day, though im fat and slow and not super hip...

Thanks.
