Longest ride/commute using a messenger bag?

My no-name messenger bag has lost it's " structural integrity ". I like riding with one so time to get another one.

looking hard at the Chrome Citizen. Same size but with more pockets and such.

chiming in to say that I also loathe Timbuk2. I tried a Banjo brothers bag but it compressed my chest too much compared to a two strap. I've yet to try my new MW messenger but I can't imagine it'd be too much different.

I feel a backpack is the way to go if you're going on a ride. Messengers are great for travel / kicking about, though.

Its not "hate" for Chrome (although to me they are kinda the Walmart of bike stuff), but love for Baileyworks. I've had mine for 17 years now, and half of those years it was used everyday, year round(Cleveland winters included) and it never failed. The strap system is excellent. The company is easy to deal with, friendly, and ALL of their bags are still made in the USA, unlike Chrome. True, unlike Chrome, they don't make shoes and shirts and pants and jackets and sweaters and this and that. They just make bags. But their bags are tough. They have a few styles to choose from, a bunch of colors and a bunch of cool, practical options.

No hate, man. Just love. Everyone love everyone.....

Nah didn't put it in the dryer. Washed it hot water which probably wasn't a good idea. Most of the wax came out and the thing aged ten years in an hour. Still in service though.

messenger bag around town, when you want to access it frequently.
backpack if you are doing any length of time. It's a lot better for your back and shoulders.

I think Chrome's quality is good. MissionWorkshop is my favorite- really nice and durable.

Unless you roll down to a hub, and have one custom made, and it is made right there, in the US. And the Wal-Mart of bike stuff? That is how I see Timbuk2 honestly. Like they tried, put out a really mass produced product with no thought behind it, and were done.

I've got a Chrome Mini Buran night. Love it. Stabilizer strap is a must though. When I first got it, I took it off and road with it. I had to elbow it back onto my back every 20 seconds. Put the stabilizer strap on and I honestly forget I have it on.

Yeah, Timbuk 2 went that way a long time ago, for sure. Honestly, I don't see Chrome any differently. They are just more "current" regarding marketing and the hipster crowd has really pushed them into mass production as well as jumping into all the other markets with shoes and jackets etc etc. I mean, of course, still making some bags here is a good idea for them, it keeps the people on the fence on their side of the fence. But they can afford to make some here, since they have all those other outsourced goods. I'm pretty sure all their other gear is made elsewhere, mass produced.

Baileyworks only makes bags, for now.

I have some Chrome shoes, and you know, they are just like their bags. Well made, well designed, and seem to be bomb proof so far. As for their clothing, ehhh, it is a little on the expensive side for me, and since I could be classified as a Clyde and not a skinny hipster, they more than likely will not work for me. The only Timbuk2 product that I own is a phone pouch because Chrome only makes pouches for hipsters with small iPhones, and I am using a Note 3. Compared to the Chrome pouch, the T2 one is an absolute joke. That is how I felt when I tried one of their messenger bags on. Just felt flimsy and that it would fall apart in less than 6 months.

+1. I've done centuries with my Chrome Citizen. This is for rides when I'm domestique for my wife. I've been on all day rides and never been uncomfortable. I don't carry a lot of heavy stuff either, the bag is for food, extra water, rain gear, layers, etc.

Now carrying a case of tall boys, than it gets uncomfortable after about 10 miles, yes, I've done this. When it's uncomfortable, stop drink a couple, and now the bag is lighter. Problem solved!

The only reason to rock a chrome bag or gear is because you got it for free, plenty of better options out there for the price point.

Come to the midwest. The fattest mother****ers squish themselves into tiny, butt sucking pants, haha

My first bag was a Timbuk 2, and I loved it, but that was 25 years ago. Yer right, they are definitely pretty cheap feeling now. I don't think Chrome makes crappy stuff. I wasn't saying that in any way. But it's def no different than any other sportsgear company like North Face, Columbia, etc. It's just marketed towards "cool people".

My commute is 12 miles one-way and I'm currently alternating between a Mission Workshop Shed and an Alchemy Goods bag that's no longer made. The Shed is pretty huge, but very comfortable. I find that both messenger bags are more comfortable than my Chrome Barrage backpack.

Last year I picked up a Timbuk2 Especial Claro and it didn't last one day at Interbike. In addition to being extremely uncomfortable, one of the seams blew out and the strap started falling apart. Quite disappointing as my old Timbuk2 bags (circa mid-90s) were pretty bomber.

Reason I lean towards the Chrome is I have actually put hands on one and thought it was well made and wore comfortable. Will prob'ly go with what I know...

Nah, you should totally not trust your own judgement but rather go with complete internet strangers opinions instead
