Rusty tubes?
So I pulled the seatpost out of my stock 1 month old KHS flite 100 and find some rust ruboff on the seatpost presumably from the seattube. I left it out in the rain for about 3 hours *once*. Should this happen? I will be ordering some frame saver tomorrow.

it happens...prolly just some surface rust that was on there from the factory. I usually drop some boeshield in every bike I build up before any components go on. Won't cause any problems, though, as long as it's just the normal stuff.

I never even rode my LeMond in the rain or after the rain and there was rust in my seat tube!

...thats because rust is steel oxidation (oxi=oxygen). water just speeds up the process. thats why you can get a rusty frame which is indoors all the time. rusting is just what steel does. all we can do is fight it, but its a losing battle...

well I know why and how steel rusts =) I was wondering if leaving a bike out in the rain once can make a frame begin to rust, especially if it's only a month old.

something doesn't sound right. i rode my Cinelli in the rain, snow, and salt covered streets and when I just dismantled it, all I found was a little bit of rust by the bottom bracket. i've had the bike almost 4 years. then again, i never left it out in the rain either.
